ARTICLE: Andre Johnson trade to Dolphins makes the most sense

Serious question . . . is anybody trading Mike Wallace for Andre Johnson, straight up, if it's on the table?

Nope…
Wallace looked bad last year due heavily to Sherman's pitiful play calling, and Tannehill's inability to throw the deep ball accurately. Andre Johnson is great, but on his last leg. I would trade him for a fourth, or could possibly be talked into a third.

Yep...Wallace's stone hands didn't have anything to do with it thankfully.

The issue for the Texans is that Stevie Johnson just netted the Bills a 4th. Stevie obviously isn't on Andre's tier, but he's a very good WR, and he's suffered through terrible QB play. Oh, and he's five years younger than Andre. Also, Stevie Johnson's contract is MUCH more attractive. Both players are UFA's in 2017. Stevie Johnson's cap hit 214-216: $3,925,000, $6,025,000, $6,125,000. He turns 28 this year, so he should have 2-4 more years where age shouldn't limit his production. Andre Johnson's cap hit for the same years: $14,644, 583, $16,144,583, $14,675,000. Andre Johnson turned 33 on July 11th.

So, yeah, if you're the Patriots, and you think Andre Johnson still has enough to get you over the top, you should have some interest, but he's really not worth trading for Houston. I'm thinking fifth or sixth round compensation.

i'm thinking 5th and 6th round is low...stevie johnson had skeletons in the closet that hurt his value and there was talk he was becoming a malcontent...andre's clean as a whistle other than he doesnt want to play for a rebuilder with a green qb i will be shocked if it's less than a 3rd rounder...i think the pats would part with that no problem for a 2 year rental at least...but belichick is a notorious stick to his guns when it comes to compensation guy...

the remaining money will definitely effect value in trade though the pats may decide once they get him in the building they can work out a restructure with more guaranteed money but less overall value and i bet andre to play for a contender would bite

I've seen a lot of him going for no less than a 2

that's more in line with how i see it provided the agent gives the team a good faith willing to restructure the current contract once the trade is consumated...again more guaranteed money in the first 2 years less overall money in the contract but more that andre will guarantee himself he sees...

that and playing for a legit contender and he bites...

Like I said above it will be a 2 or maybe a 3 and change. And with his a contract and age that would be an absolutely dreadful trade for the fins

But for a team like the Pats or Denver. Maybe even NO or Dallas, All with ageing qbs with a small window ..... Yea I would use a 2 for a wr with maybe 2 good years left. Especially if I was the pats

But the Texans really don't want too lose him, if he goes it won't be cheap

Tough to see putting so much cap money at wr. Wallace is making crazy cash and Hartline is well compensated. Gibson is making 3+ I believe. I also don't think an aging wr fits where this team is at. Put me down for a nah.

Who are they going to trade to get him, great talent but he's hurt. I'd say no that's why this team never progresses, use what you have and develop Landry make him our Andre Johnson.

Purely speculation, but news is slow these days..

The six-time Pro Bowl receiver has been skipping offseason activities with the Texans and, despite a brief thaw in the relationship, has now told the team he does not want to continue to play for them. Could a trade be in future?
When that report surfaced, we took a look at the possibility of the Miami Dolphins being one of those four teams. Frankly, I do not see it happening.

Battle Red Blog, SB Nation's Texans site, however, sees it differently. They actually see the Dolphins as the team that could make the most sense in a Johnson trade:

Just off the top of my head, I would think he would want to go to more of an established team to contend. Isn't that why he wants out of Houston?

This is a pretty ridiculous thread. The chances of him coming to Miami are 100/1. He has been a very great player but his window is closing. We should not be chasing him to prevent him from going to New England. I'm still of the belief that he will probably stay in Houston. He is too expensive for most teams to afford.

He'll be a ****ing Pat. O'Brien has a relationship with Belichick too (he was their OC before going to Penn State). And then Johnson and Brady will probably jack us up in week 1.
