ARTICLE: Andre Johnson trade to Dolphins makes the most sense

we already spend more on receivers than like 3/4 the nfl. anyone who thinks we take on another 10m a year wr contract is utterly, clinically insane

I'd give 2 2nd round picks for him. Next 2 years. That'll get it done

Any team that tries to trade for him must have the salary cap money available now. For the Pats it means cutting players to trade for him.

You can't restructure until after the trade has been completed. Only a few team have the money currently without cutting players.

Sorry but you don't have a clue as to what your talking about, the Pats can make any number of moves to clear cap space without cutting anyone. It's as simple at restructuring a couple of contracts, guaranteeing a couple of signing bonuses and moving them to next year. All they have to do is go to Tom and say hey we want to redo your deal, guarantee 5 mill of your contract, convert it to a signing bonus due next year.

That is true they can restructure, I failed to mention that possibility. but right now they don't have the money to trade for Andre.
They would have to make some moves like most of the teams in the NFL. Add in the draft compensation and I don't see it happening.

Tom Brady's salary is only $2M so that is NOT an option. They already played that card
Login Mankins salary is $6M. He is the only player they could convert salary to bonus and get them close.
otherwise they have to guarantee multiple players.

If they wouldn't give Welker $7M what makes anyone think they will pay Andre over $10M

Could we send them Hartline and Gibson for Johnson? Wallace Johnson and Landry with Binns Matthews and a rookie sounds decent to me.

BREAKING NEWS: Andre Johnson traded to the cheats for a condiotional 6th rounder, houston also agrees to pay for more than half the money remaining on his contract and also agrees to send a Houston Texan playbook to the cheats

That is about the only way the Cheatriots will get him. LOL.

Well they may or may not depending on compensation and Johnson's willingness to restructure. All reports have said he is willing to restructure to go to a contender, so out of the teams mentioned the Pats are the only one that really fits that bill. The Patriots have about 7 million in cap space and would need to clear 5, trade then restructure his contract. The money isn't the concern in terms of cap space as next years cap is projected to go up by 10-15 million, it all comes down to compensation, pick or player. For all we know, the Texans could want Mallet and a 6th Rounder? Bottom line is you trying to make it out as impossible is simply whistling past the grave yard, all things being equal it, if he ends up being traded, it's most likely to the Patriots not least likely.

Clearing the 5 won't be easy. If you look at their players, most of the salaries have already been paid in bonuses. There is only 49 Million in Player salaries. The rest is already paid in bonuses. If you add in the mallet trade it becomes more believable. That moves his $1M cap hit to Houston and makes the gap a bit smaller. I guess we will see what happens.

Who are they going to trade to get him, great talent but he's hurt. I'd say no that's why this team never progresses, use what you have and develop Landry make him our Andre Johnson.

Since when has that stopped us?

Again you're kidding yourself, or you just don't understand the salary structure as it pertains to the salary cap. Creating the space is the easiest thing in the world, all you have to do is take 5 million of this years un guaranteed salary, for one or many players, and convert it to a guaranteed bonus or bonuses that are due next year, no player is going to turn down having a portion of their salary guaranteed and deferred. Again I'm not trying to be insulting but it really seems like you just don't understand how the salary cap works. Teams have been moving cap space around like this for years and with a lot larger numbers than 5 mill. You can thump you chest all you like about the cap space but if he isn't traded to the Pats it won't be because of the cap. Then again I'm predicting right now that if he is traded to the Patriots, then your next thread will be something like "he's old and washed up anyway."

Lets see we are thinking about trading for some wide reciever which just happens to probably be our deepest position on this team in years when we have glaring issues at linebacker, offensive line and possibly running back. Come on Philbin and Hickey this team "needs" help and lets keep focused where we need it most.

Did you miss last season? The Fins were 22nd in the league receiving offense, not exactly a area of strength.

if the pats want this to happen finding the room to do so is not an issue...guaranteeing more money with established vets is an easy way to find the money they need...
