15-1: Are Jets fans delusional?

Expectations for the New York Jets couldn't be much higher among their frothing fans.

ESPNNewYork's Jane McManus writes about a recent SportsNation poll in which fans were asked to pick the winners for each of the Jets' 16 regular-season games.

The consensus has the Jets finishing 15-1, the greatest record in franchise history.

"Who'd we lose to?" Ryan asked.

The only game the Jets aren't projected to win is Week 12 against the New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium.

In fact, Jets fans harbored negligible doubt on most games. They were so sure on 12 of the victories that at least 80 percent agreed. Five games generated at least 90 percent harmony of triumph.

The three games they were most certain to win, strangely enough, are on the road: Week 4 at the Buffalo Bills (98.4 percent), Week 8 at the Detroit Lions (99.3 percent) and Week 9 at the Cleveland Browns (98.5 percent).

Even a presumably meaningless game in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field -- the Jets would've wrapped up home-field advantage by then and be resting some starters, right? -- generated 87.0 percent of the vote for victory.

There's one narrow victory predicted. At home against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, a relatively modest 50.6 percent had the Jets winning.

Ryan said, "15-1, I'll actually take that; 15-1, Jets fans are smart. We'll go ahead and take that. I don't want to be too greedy."

But as Ryan walked away, the prediction seemed to sink in.

"Man," Ryan said, "that's some expectations."
Wow. There are going to be a lot of tears in NY this year! No way do the Jets go 15-1.

Wow, Jets fans are absolutely due for a good dose of humility...

I know right. Sexy Rexy is going to be at the head of the line too, because I gurantee you he actually believes this smut........this is worse than porn!!!!

There is a saying that "expectations are premeditated resentments!"

My expectation is there are going to be many resentful Jet fans by the end of football season calling for Ryan's job.

I am 100% confident I won't be resentful based on that expectation.

I don't know anyone who believes we'll go 15-1, that is an unrealistic expectation for any team. w/ that said I'm not sure how scientific that poll was.

Anyone else remember the 1995 season where everyone had us penciled in to win it all. Roster had something like 20-22 former 1st rd picks on it and the best we did was 9-7 and Shula retired.

Thats why they play the games. I dont care what thier team looks like on paper.

you may have been penciled in to win the AFC but not win it all, the AFC stunk back then and the top NFC teams were head and shoulders above the top AFC teams.

We all know predictions are meaningless, we could be great or we could fall flaot on our face. Who knows? right now it's a fun offseason topic.

I actually think the Jets will take a step backwards this season, I am thinking 7-9 or 8-8. They'll find out that Thomas Jones and Leon Washington were more crucial than they thought. They'll find out that LT really is running on empty. It will take Holmes at least until week 7 to get into full swing. Sanchez will experience more pressure to produce and won't deliver. Teams will use Manning's blue print from the Championship game on how to pick their "D" apart. Not having the 3-0 start like last year and not having teams play them soft in weeks 16 and 17 will take its toll.

It reminds me of how crazy Dolphin fans became when Culpepper got into town. This is why I enter every game expecting to lose; at worst, you get what you expected, and at best, you scored an upset.

The Jets may take a step back, but your reasons all seem silly to me.

They'll find out that Thomas Jones and Leon Washington were more crucial than they thought.
Shonn Greene took the starting role from TJ last season, and was much more effective when he was in. He is the Jets starter. Now, if you want to say he is an injury concern, I agree.

Washington was injured for the majority of last season and his role as a kick returner/third down back has been replaced. Last year Brad Smith took care of a lot of that, and we added two rookies that can help too.

They'll find out that LT really is running on empty.
LT is obviously a shell of his former self but the Jets will not be relying on him to handle the load unless Greene is injured. He was about as effective as Thomas Jones at the end of last season behind a much worse run blocking o-line. Look for LT to take maybe 150 carries this season while spelling Greene. TJ was never really effective as a 10-15 carry per game back, he was mostly effective after 15 carries for whatever reason.

It will take Holmes at least until week 7 to get into full swing.
And we didn't even have him last year. When he starts in week 5 our #3 receiver position is instantly upgraded by a great deal, even if Santonio is only at 75%.

Sanchez will experience more pressure to produce and won't deliver.
That's funny because when the pressure was at it's highest point last year in the playoffs he played very well. He had the best combined rookie qb performance in NFL history.

He may or may not play well, but to just say he will not deliver with your only reason being pressure seems silly.

Teams will use Manning's blue print from the Championship game on how to pick their "D" apart.
The funny thing is there's only one Peyton Manning. We also upgraded our secondary a great deal by adding Cromartie and Wilson. Manning lit up our 5th string corner last year.

Not having the 3-0 start like last year and not having teams play them soft in weeks 16 and 17 will take its toll.
What are you Nostradamus? I'm not saying we will start out 3-0, but how are you so sure we won't?

I have no problem with your opinion, but your reasons just seem silly.

I think the loss of Faneca is going to hurt us in the run game, especially early on in the season. His pass blocking has been below average but he's still a very good run blocker IMO. Losing Feeley worries me too.
