Barry Jackson: Dungy and JT Criticize Philbin

Joe is toast. A few more questionable (downright dumb) game management decisions, and the players will turn in the worst way. The players are on the verge of mutiny...

How do you know that? Are you in the locker room? Just curious.

As Joe plays Jedi with his mind tricks, the players are like…"yeah, Tannehill is starting". LOL.

Maybe but I thought this offense was paint by numbers for QB's? I'm willing to give him more time but by mid season the Eagles QB's weren't having issues with the new offense.
I mean how does this play end in a sack?

Curious, where is it quoted that this is a "paint by numbers system for QBs"? I haven't seen that anywhere and I know you have used this term before. From what I'm seeing it's more complex than Sherman's system

speaking of the hartline penalty after the td i know i saw a similar situation play out in another game i was watching this weekend either the seahawks broncos the sunday nighter or the monday nighter and no call was made on it...

but thats hartline for ya...rarely sniffs the end zone so when he does on a well designed play more than anything he's got to do some demonstration instead of act like he's been there before

I have no issue with a celebration its a silly penalty really is the no fun league

Easy, the pre determined WR is covered and the QB continues to stare at him rather than take one of two easy options for a first down

the other problem i have other than philbins clock management in that 2 minute is not really sure why daniel thomas was in there anyways he was in the building max 3 days of work before that maybe they thought on that screen play with him in there kc wouldnt expect it and i guess i get that but we also on the next play scraped 5 seconds off the clock with everyone else set while tannehill was having to tell him where to get lined up properly and moved him from one side of the formation to the other...all while the clock is slowly dying

staff has to have a better understanding of time and situational awareness and personnel...but so does the qb on a lot of other things in that game...failure on many fronts...i'm betting thomas was told he'd be used only in the 2 minute and they expected him to know his assignment in that regard given thats what they asked him to learn by gameday...well he didnt

I've been saying it for 2 years. Philbin is a nice guy and would make a great next door neighbor....... But he is NOT an NFL head coach. For Christ's sake, he didn't even call plays in GB. What does he bring to this team besides questionable decisions? If he is still the head coach on January 5th, Ross is truly clueless. To be honest, if I were Ross and we lose to Oakland this week, I wouldn't let Philbin back on the plane to come home.

Don't you think the real consequences of Philbin's comments this week will play out on the field? If RT responds with several good performances, the media will be talking about this in a different light and how Joe did a good job getting RT's attention.....if not, it will be about ruining his confidence.

I think there is more to come on this story.

Can't dig it up now but I've seen it in the preseason threads and anytime folks try to explain the success of Nick Foles one of the big excuses is how QB friendly this offense is.

Foles may not have been having issues like Tannehill but he certainly had the benefit of a more balanced attack. In fact, the Eagles had the best balance in the entire league with 500 runs and 506 passes for 2013. Although Foles' TD/INT ratio was nothing short of phenomenal, he never passed for more than 300 yards and twice passed for over 400 yards. Of the 400 yard passing performances one was a win vs the Raiders (#28 Pass D) and the other was a loss vs Minnesota (#31 Pass D).

Also, Foles only averaged 24 pass attempts per game last year. Tannehill is currently averaging 41 in a similar offense. That's absurd to ask of a QB learning a new system. The Eagles we're able to bring Foles along at a much slower pace. He also had McCoy for both for rushing and receiving (52 rec, 81%, 539yds, 10.4 y/r) benefits, but it's not like our rushing attack has proved to be too shabby either (currently #7).

QB pressures, drops and the sheer amount of what is being asked of Tannehill (41 attempts a game in a new offense) are some of the main factors that are working against our offense at the moment.

We need more balance; plain and simple. I'm really surprised that Lazor hasn't seen that as one of the important factors in learning about Chip Kelly's offense and his observations from the Eagles performance last year. And the balance we're talking about there isn't about trying to hide the QB, it's about limiting mistakes for a QB in a new offense much like what was provided to Foles last year in grasping new concepts.

yeah, yknow I'm not getting this guy.. he picked 17 for his qb.. he knew what he was when he did it.. jerking him around in pressers seems obtuse, or at least ignorant.. and he keeps with the "we're performance based" mantra.. well ok, there really needs to be a sit-down-checklist session every Mon for Philbin; cuz he ain't gettin it done

i do think the eagles system is a qb friendly one...hell sanchez not looking terrible in it tells me as much also...but the one miamis running is qb friendly to me also...tannys not setting up protections as much etc...this SHOULD be an easier one for him to operate in...but somethings definitely a miss so far

maybe it just needs time...we'll find out

This offense is more QB friendly, but we also aren't running the Eagles offense.
