Barry Jackson Gives a Critical Look at the Coaching Staff

I would also give credit to Joe that I think he has done well guiding RT early in his career. However, he did him a disservice by not demanding more runs this year

He did him a disservice? He put our season on his shoulders, pretty sure most athletes are "me" types and would love nothing more than to get the opportunity to be the hero. The Bills and Jets were 1 and 5 in rushing attempts, how'd that work out for them?

Everything Philbin is doing I believe he's doing to expedite Tannehill's learning curve, we'll find out a lot this season if its working. Personally, I'm predicting Tannehill is going to put up some huge numbers, like franchise record setting type numbers.

“He’s just an organizational guy who’s on top of the scheduling and planning.”

This was the fear I've expressed a bunch of times here. It's painful to see it in print because I'd hoped that wasn't actually the case.

By the way, Philbin hasn't completely ruled out additional staff changes, according to an associate. Offensive line coach Jim Turner's status could be impacted by Ted Wells' report on the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito scandal.

You'd think firing Turner for the crappy job he'd done would have occurred to Philbin.

Haven't read the article but usually you can judge the ability of the coaches based on the play on the field. People like Vernon, Egnew, Tannehill, Carroll, clearly improved, and I get the impression our secondary, dline, TE, WR coaches must be doing a reasonable job. QB coach I couldn't honestly tell you. LB, Oline were clearly out biggest let downs, probably does suggest neither coaches are the best.

jeff was upset the rookies didn't play more...other than dion jordan who we could have used more creatively to get snaps out of and it's on coyle that we didn't none of em deserved to play more...

just jeff trying to save his hide after another crappy draft...on top of everything else...

i have no idea why that oline coach is still in the building...

I know why he is in the building, he is friends with Joe.

Yeah. If the team was better at running the ball maybe the franchise would not have set a record for sacks given up. Embarrassing.

Not to Philbin, he is the perfect coach for Ross, let mediocrity just ride

And if our o-line wasn't so sucky at pass pro maybe our passing game would have been more effective allowing us to run more. Ireland's insistence Jon Martin was good enough as a left tackle had a lot more to do with the sack record than the play calling.

I don't disagree with that. However, Joe came in with the promise of delivering an effective offense and has failed miserably at that.

I said this 2 weeks ago and I will say it again. The 2014 season is going to be much like the 2011 season. What we are going to see is a team that will totally tune out the coaches, because they simply don't respect the coaches. I have been calling out this entire staff since the pre-season and I have been calling Failbin out before he even got the job. So all of this is no surprise to me. I don't see the Dolphins starting out 0-6 this time only because Tannehill is a much better QB than Chad Henne. But to think that yet another season is going to be flushed down the toilet makes me sick to my stomach.

If he hasn't already lost the team and the new GM is at least decent I'm predicting our offense is going to jump all the way up to top 12 next season.

I agree. It is the most unenthusiastic I have felt for a season in awhile.

I hope the new GM gives a vision and direction to rally behind. I really think Miami could be in the Winston race by the end of next year.

Well to be fair no one on the line could pass block to save their lives this year. Martin was far from the worst piece, well maybe not far but the whole oline sucked

Miami already has a Winston cup race doesn't it

Philbin reminds me of a battalion commander I had when I was stationed in Germany. This guy wanted all of the vehicles in the motor pool to have their windshield wipers angled at exactly 30 degrees (we would have to use a protractor to get the angle exactly correct, but I digress) and each vehicle had to be parked so that if you stood at the end of the line, each bumper aligned. Now he didn't care if the vehicles could run or if they had all their tires etc. Philbin is the same way, a master of the mundane. There is probably not one coach in the nfl who is scared that Philbin will unveil some wild offensive scheme or formation. Philbin sold Ross a pig in the poke by promising a potent offense.

And to think our LB coach just got hired as a DC
