Barry Jackson Gives a Critical Look at the Coaching Staff

Philbin may not be the best coach but players failed at their own jobs down the stretch and it's time they own up to their own poor performances.

Still hoping Turner gets he blame/axe after the Martin report comes out...

Philbin should have been canned after that epic collapse plain and simple.

I'll be honest with you everyone here on Finheaven. Yes, we may not have the greatest coaching staff, owner or players. But, at some point you gotta have pride and say, "Screw you national and local media" I am NOT gonna allow you to talk crap about my team.

It's like having a family member that may not all be there! Of-course within the family everyone knows it, But are you really gonna sit-back and allow outsiders to sit there and make fun and take Jabs at them? HELL NO!

It's disgusting, IMO, that we have "fans" that are perfectly okay and go to lengths to help outsiders that absolutely don't care about our team, pile on. You DISGUST ME!!! YOU FREAK'IN HEAR ME??

MODS..NEED to take a proactive stance on this. NO MORE, Dolphins bashing post from the outside. NONE!! If internally we as a family we want to talk trash about our team? Then that's fine. But, no more allowing people to come into our house and crap on our floor!!!

This team is embarrassing, they deserve to get smashed in the media.

If you watch some of the victory speeches by philbin and look at the players reaction. Some smirking and laughing at Joe. I believe in that story and hope we can make changes to all the coaches

I believe it. Players were straight up taking shots at Mike Sherman -- with their names attributed to the quotes -- before he got fired.

And the Herald has another article that Bess had an incident prior to trading him and that they never disclosed the incident to the Browns. Surprisingly there isn't a thread yet.

I won't create it because it is a Salguero story and link but you can read it at PFT.

I think as soon as we learned about that incident we knew the Browns had no clue. Why else would they have traded for him?

One more black eye for the Dolphins thanks to Jeff Ireland.

This is probably a better staff than most at coaching up players as you really never see a lot of hands on development going on at the NFL level outside maybe a few positions. Look at how many players improved in comparison to year two versus year one, despite the similar play-calling and schemes. The problem has been the inability to apparently use the talent we have in an effective manner. That's a problem with game planning and play calling, which is something that needs to improve in year three if the current coaching group is kept.

And notice the players who are putting the blame on coaches.

I wonder which players he is talking about?

condition of anonymity. ah yes. but what we need to do here is get to who is at fault here right? right! Joe! Your next up Joe! And Dawn wont be around to save your ass this time Joe!

what comes round, goes round. Particularly if your the Miami Dolphins.

Richie Incognito put his name on criticism of Mike Sherman before he got suspended. So did Mike Pouncey. Mike Wallace criticized the coaches. Brian Hartline has criticized the coaches on Twitter for the routes he's asked to run. Ryan Tannehill never refuted the 'leak' that he was fed up with Mike Sherman's crapola offense. How about Bryant McKinnie calling out the offensive staff TWICE for predictable snap counts and then taking credit for helping Brenner out -- something that made the coaches look bad?

If you think this stuff is made up or is not valid, I don't know what to tell you. Remember after Sherman got criticized for not running QB sneaks and not running the ball, when the noise reached a crescendo, he came out in the next week and not only called a QB sneak (like one of two all year) but kept pounding the rock to the point of running it on 3rd and long like a petulant child?

I'm sorry but I don't understand how people can think this is made up nonsense. The players were clearly fed up with the coaching staff.

Good points of actual comments made.

What's funny (or sad) is that Miami's own press seems more critical of the Dolphins than anyone else, including some serious haters at the national level (which is hard to do). While I'm sure there are some questions and concerns about how all this is going to play out, do we really have to shoot our own team in the foot before they can try and improve things??

True, but just like young players, coaches evlolve and can grow from year to year. I do think a big reason for the complaints about the offense was Mike Sherman and he has been removed from the picture and replaced with a younger OC who has a lot more tricks up his sleeve. I think that one move can make a significant difference going forward.

Granted that doesn't make O'Keefe or Turner coach better but as an overall offense things should improve. With that said, I am not even convinced Turner will be coaching the line next season. When a team goes 8-8 and missed out on a chance at the playoffs and certainly should have had a better record, complaining about players and coaches happens and is warranted. The team fell apart the final two weeks and while there were certain players that had a hand in it, the coaches were just as much at fault.
