Its also important to note that Maurkice just landed a 5 year, $44 million extension(no guaranteed money, shrewd on their part). Even if he didnt think he was the better center(which he does) and more durable(that i could give him), he will want a bigger contract for dick measuring reasons alone. When we picked up Pouncey's 5th year option it came with a $7.4 million salary. Pouncey has since spoken out and said he feels hes outplayed that. Is it really so unthinkable that he asks for $2 million and change more?
Ive been getting a kick out of those have been defending Pouncey's honor tooth and nail but also have stated they support getting rid of him next offseason. What in the hell is the difference? Pouncey is going to miss at the very least 5 games this year(im not going to be surprised if that number "shockingly" increases). He will miss the full training camp regimen while rehabbing his injury(if he isnt drunk), he wont have any first hand experience with our new offense, he wont have any first hand experience with our new blocking schemes, he wont have any first hand experience with our entirely new line, and he knows he will be rewarded with cash if he drags his feet during his recovery while the line struggles.
Meanwhile, if we get rid of him we stand to gain both tangible(draft picks, cap room) and intangible(kicking a corrosive element out of the locker room, message sent to the players the bull**** isnt tolerated) benefits.
Are those 10 or 11 games really worth it? For all the boasting about his All Pro(!!!!!) talent, our line is going to suck anyways. We are potentially starting 2 rookies, a second year player who hasnt shown much, and a veteran who rarely plays all 16 games. Tannehill is getting hit all season long. As we've seen in years past and as its been pointed out repeatedly: Pouncey isnt going to be providing all that many solutions. But he is going to be "providing" problems.
And people are vehemently fighting for this headcase interior lineman. This forum never ceases to amaze.
