Many here are not big fans of Chris Clemons, He does not give and pass rush (-1.5 grade), is not very good vs the run (-3.6 grade), and makes few big plays. Why the hell is he a must sign?

Well, Clemons is 28 (in his prime), was #17 overall of S's playing half the team's snaps, and #9 in cover allowing 53% completions, and only 2 TD's. NFL has him at #25 for those not caring for PFF, and he played 1158 snaps.

Aside from all that, he is the QB of our secondary. Consider that last season we had a new guy in Grimes, a S playing badly in Jones, and assorted other CB's in Patterson, Carroll, Wilson, etc At DB, and did a fine job in stopping opposing O's to score.

IMO, Clemons leadership and play calls had a lot to do with that. It does not show up on the stat line but, is really important to the team. He's the kind of player you want to upgrade, until you look at what he really does in having other DB's in great position to make plays.

I believe Clemons is a must sign, and am guessing around a 3 year $10-12M deal will get it done.

Is he a must-sign? Depends on the contract. Anything over $3mil is too much, in my opinion. Otherwise he is a decent stabilizing force for the secondary.

I don't think that he's a must signing but he's not bad. If there is a Safety who is clearly better (and affordable) then go for him. Otherwise resign Clemons without over spending. Southbeach is correct - Clemons has the reputation of being a leader on Defense.

Nothing special about the guy...but replacing him is not a priority based on current needs. If he wants too much though, let him walk.

not a must sign but a very underrated player not a star but causes no issues. Sign him up, 3 years 12 million

I would love to bring him back again on another one year deal, but still add a safety at some point in the draft. Though my dream scenario would be to sign Jairus Bryd.

There is nothing much out there at S. TJ Ward would not improve our team overall and Byrd is a pipe dream. You need to look past the stats on Clemons, although #9 in cover is VG. He reminds me of another S, I think it was Vincent, who did close to the same thing.

No must sign. What has he done? The point of the new GM and off season is to improve, not stay complacent. That said, I have not liked our coaching. Maybe it's a little of both.

For those who do not agree, give me another option? I do not see any.

This is one of the rare situations where we all seem to agree - Chris Clemons is OK but he's not a must signing and not a top priority among the Free Agents. In a way, Ireland decision to give him just a one year deal last year was keeping the options open.

Gosh! How much did R.Jones suck this season? Geez, how do you play that badly after a big pay day?

Not a must but I hope we resign him. He's good enough to help us win and is a smart leader in that backfield. He's constantly getting others in place and shows his intelligence. He is the type of player we need. I also thing we need him because he's not going to command a top safety contract which will help us on the cap. His biggest drawback for me is he can't catch a cold. I can't count how many INT's he's dropped over the years.

Chris Clemons is a must cut. Talk about an underachiever. Has he ever made an interception. Maybe 1? I'd rather have Don Jones back there, at least he'd lay the wood on the guy. Or Jimmy Wilson...see ya Clemons. time to go play for a softer team than us, if you can find one.
