Chris Perkins: Dolphins headed for mediocrity in 2025 before 2026 rebuild

I mean this is spot on. Those teams missed playoffs most years. You got to get in to win. McDaniel got us in 2 out 3 years.

I am so tired of hearing about the 25 year drought. That doesn’t have much to do with McDaniel or Tua. McDaniel been here 3 years out of those 25 years So McDaniel is responsible for 8.3 percent of the 25 years drought.

At least they are getting in playoffs back to back years. Most success we had in 25 years back to back. Thats just facts.
Let’s see if they can make it three out of four. If they don’t. Then change will happen.
Exactly.

In Shula’s last 10 years as HC he made the playoffs only 4 times. He did win 3 games in those 4 playoff trips, but again, that was over 10 years after he’d been a HC the previous 16 seasons in Miami.

People nowadays expect instant gratification and long term success at making it to the SB. People use the Pats as their measuring stick, and it’s a good one, but people don’t remember they failed to win a SB over a 10 year period with Brady in his prime and some really loaded teams and choked a lot during that span.

McD has been here 3 seasons and has two playoff appearances. In one he had his 7th round rookie QB playing in Buffalo and in the other they played the eventual SB champs in -40F weather in KC (who also beat the Bills (in Buffalo) and the Ravens (in Baltimore) before winning it all against a very good 49ers team. And Allen, in Buffalo, put up a bad 86 PR with about 180 yards passing. Jackson put up a 75 against KC in Baltimore. Tua, in KC, and with backups all over, put up a 68 in his first ever playoff appearance.

The visual medium naturally lends itself to showing your homework, for starters. I'm looking for varying perspectives and analysis that confirms or makes me question my read of a situation. To that end, I also like watching fans of other teams break us down, if they can support their opinions. I don't have to agree with them. That's what I'd call good.

What I'm not looking for are lazy takes, that are clearly not supported by "tape". I hate flip flopping. I dislike moving the goalposts to fit very subjective narratives. For example, there is a reporter who claims strong knowledge of the trenches, but refers to Grant as NT, making it crystal clear how much college film he's watched. Another likes to debate the "it factor" of QBs, which is backed by what exactly? Show me the mountains of film of a QB carrying a team on his shoulders without the other pieces of the offense doing their job semi-competently. Another masturbates about the toughness of the Ravens and Steelers, but then questions why we spent 4 picks on the trenches. Then he complains about our trade up in round 2, after years of saying that the team settles for leftovers because they don't have the conviction to move up for their true targets. No, Ratledge was not as good a prospect than Jonah S, least of all at TWO positions. Then another reporter posited that the 5th best OL on a team is less impactful on the outcome of games than position x. Really? Which team? Which offense? Which situation? You'd have to be completely incapable of comprehending nuance to accept that hypothesis. So what are we learning from these people?

It's not all bad, of course. I don't go to the YouTubers for news, unless they claim to have a source. I hate that Reason made things personal with the reporters, because I don't despise any of them whatsoever. I actually feel for them at times, because if they did produce film breakdowns that were hypercritical of the team, it would probably limit their ability to report the news. There was a fabled Omar vs the old Jordan Phillips beef, after all. Much as I was disturbed by his tale about his nipples that one time, I don't want to see him getting his arms torn off by a 350lb man.

Well, that was some rambling. Sorry?

I feel my bolded portion of your post identifies a fundamental validity that represents a sound, underlying foundation for the rest of your post.

Well done Sir!

Yep I am willing to give it another year. I thought last year would be rougher than others expected. I was kind of surprised by the optimism going into a year with Robert jones and Liam as starters. Then having two best edge guys coming off injuries and not expecting them to play till October. Phillips played in sept but got hurt.

We need to stay healthier than usual. Then see what happens. If it doesn’t work out then changes will be made. But I enjoyed 2022 2023 because we sucked so bad before that. So I am willing to give it a year with some reasons for hope and some concerns.

I think Shula last 10 years 85-95 he made playoffs 5 times. But maybe you are saying 86-to 95 season. He had 4 straight misses which is crazy with Marino. Then 90 92 94 95 we made it. But 95 this board would have exploded cause we needed help to get in. lol

I am not one who continually brings up the Club Med narrative when it comes to the Dolphins, so I cannot answer that question.
You’re Insinuating there are no issues with how this team practices no?

100 percent imo there are huge issues and the club med nickname should stick

Problem is if you keep tua in the building he’s your unquestioned plan a. You can’t really move on til you get him out the building.

Of course this is all dependent upon Miami having a chance at a better option. Which maybe we won’t this coming offseason. Idk yet.
Obviously.

The fact this point even has to be made shows the true divide among the fan base.

The same professionals who thought Eich and Jones would be a good starting guard tandem?just cause they are in the NFL doesn’t mean they make the correct decisions, you should know that after being a Fins fan.

There are a few guys here that have a much better track record than this FO and had we listened to their picks over the years i can guarantee you we’d be in a better position than now. Not saying they deserve to be in the NFL but neither do alot of the guys in our FO.
In fairness I do think Isaiah Wynn was plan A at one OG spot lol

"Once Tyreek leaves, it’s all over for this offense. It must be totally rebuilt."
I stopped reading when I got this bit, because... really?
The basic premise of the piece may not be far from reality, but Hill is the past.
Yes, he's still perhaps got a few decent seasons in him; but with Waddle, Achane (and hopefully) Westbrook-Ikhine as well as the 2nd and 3rd string Washingtons in the mix I'd say our offense - at least from a receiver point of view - is very healthy.

So, to clarify, you don’t think Miami can draft a QB in 2026 with the intention of sitting him for a year, with Tua as a bridge starter for that season?

Let’s just say…I strongly disagree.

I don’t know how Tua would react to us drafting a QB that high, he’d have to know we intend to replace him and after signing his long term deal i believe he sees himself here long term…not sure if he’s the type to force a trade but it wouldn’t be good for the locker room that’s for sure. Also, don’t know how interested Tua would be in mentoring his replacement, he’s not a veteran on his last legs trying to do a solid for the team, either way it’s not a dynamic id want.
