Colts give Jonathan Taylor permission to be Traded

right but do we want to upset the whole team by giving the new guy what he wants before we even take care of the guys that have been here......not to mention that adding yet another big contract will mean losing another player at another position

I'm not so sure. I think the rest of the team would be thrilled to have one of the best offensive players in the league join the team. They want to win the Superbowl just as much as we want them to win it, and they know we'd be a much better team with Taylor than we would be without him.

Supposedly they want a 1 and more in order to let him go. No reason to let him go for much less than that when you can tag him next year and then trade him.

Well you run the risk of getting nothing out of him and paying him a lot of money with nothing to show for it after 2024.

The Colts don't have a lot of leverage. The player has the talent and you're not going to pay the player, so your options are limited.

Taylor can dictate where he goes or just be a high paid malcontent next year. Not going to work out for Indy regardless.

If they would take something like Gaskin, Wilson and a 3rd, I would do it in a heartbeat

Which Wilson?

Also you don't have a 3rd or 4th this upcoming draft so that complicates things.

A 2nd for 3rd swap is more doable, along with adding a 2025 pick, when we'll have a bunch of compensatory picks to play with.

I just think if they wanted a RB they'd have gotten Cook which wouldn’t have costed any picks and maybe even less money than what Taylor wants. I guess we'll find out soon but I don’t see it happening and again, I'd love Taylor on the team but this doesn’t make sense right now

Grier is the GM. Regardless who Flores wanted, he could have selected differently. As such, they are all Grier picks.
True, but to be successful, a GM needs to work in unison with the coaches he has.

The way I see it, The GM sets the general direction for a team's success, but it's the coaches who do the detail work.

It's like a store owner and a tailor. The store owner buys the cloth, and the tailor makes the suit. If the store owner buys crappy cloth, the tailor is limited in how good a suit he can make.

If the tailor can get any cloth he wants, he could make a good suite and put the store out of business at the same time, by reducing the available funds for operating the store.

There needs to be a "positive synergism" between the Owner, the GM and the Head Coach, or the operation will only have "limited" success.

Let the Coach worry about the upcoming season, the GM worry about the upcoming three seasons and the owner worry about where all this ends up, and the fans can chew it all up like a bunch of "maggots" attacking a corpse.

I could probably have worded that better. - LOL

Anyone familiar with the immediate needs of the Colts? I don't really focus on them too much as they have been pretty irrelevant for years now.

Excellent point

Maybe Miami never wanted Cook because they knew they could get Taylor, and just flirted with him through the media to drive his price up for the Jets?

As much as I would like to see it, I just don't see it happening. If Tua goes down we need that first rounder next year sorry to say.

Also, Grier has been doing stuff out of the blue. Who saw Tyreek, Terron, Ramsey or Chubb coming?

Too much noise with this one for me to jump on board. For a 3rd and Wilson ok what the hell, but more than that with our QB situation the way it is, nah.

We will see but my expectations are low. Better chance at getting Jacobs from Vegas shhh lol

You know I completely understand the need to keep the 1st and justification.

But I also look at the alternative. If Tua goes down we would need a guy like Taylor to stay competitive for a 4-5 game stretch. He would be the back that could carry the team for a few games.

I mean if Skylar is our starting QB for a 4 week span. Will Mostert/ Achane or Taylor/ Achane make you feel more confident?

For me, I just don't see using a 1st to replace Tua as an option.

But if you feel a serious Tua injury means we need to replace him ( I disagree. But completely understand and respect that opinion) then that 1st is more valuable then Taylor.

As others have said, if Grier didn't pay $7 million for Cook, he ain't paying double that plus draft picks for Taylor. It ain't happening.

This is similar to Tyreek. Colts allowing Taylor to seek trade, which means to me that a contract extension will be agreed upon before a deal is done. I don't think trade compensation will be the problem. But negociating a contract with a RB who wants 15 mil a year will be a problem just like it was for the Colts. The Chiefs couldn't afford Tyreek but everybody was willing to pay a top 3 WR his money. No team is giving any RB 15 mil. Just ain't going to happen. Taylor has to agree to less or he's stuck in Indy for the year, trying to avoid penalties etc. He'll show up in week 1 or 2 whatever similar to what Emmitt Smith did back in the day.
