Cut Mare - Sign France?

He's probably thinking that anyone is better than Mare. Similiar to last couple of years when people said anyone is better than Fiedler.

That type of rationale is just emotion beating out logic.

what about the kick in the denver game, if someone wants to look it up i think he still has a very good percentage on kicks to either tie or win a game for us...

I don't know why everyone continues to bring up this Denver kick. It was early in 2002 when most of us Mare haters agree that he was still among the elites. I've had a problem with him pretty much ever since that game.

A great kickoff guy too?? Please, not recently he hasn't. Some people seem to forget that kickoff against the Patriots in 2002 when he kicked the ball out of bounds and gave the Patriots ridiculous field position, on their way to knocking us out of the playoff hunt.

One could argue he cost us the playoffs in 2002 AND 2003. Although being at the game it was already out of hand before the Overtime kickoff. (Wanny drops Fiedler back 3 straight plays with our backs to our own endzone)

actually i didnt forget that, i was at that game sitting in the endzone at foxbor, the only fin fan in the section. thats inexcuseable, but kasay did the same thing in the superbowl vs the pats. have you guys forgotten hes also one of the best onside kickers in the league, which i dont recall us using lately, but some kickers cant do it to save there lives

a leg ( calf ) injury to a kicker is like a shoulder injury to a pitcher, he will be fine this season, i have no worries about olindo. would you rather have be AV or vanderjerk?

Such a brutal game. I was crushed leaving Gillette that night, and for many more weeks after. I'm not sure I've even fully recovered from that game yet. We had the playoffs in the BAG that year after beating Oakland week 15. :shakeno:

lets blame that game on the proper authorites, coaching and a lack of collective clue by all those involved at the time cost us that game...i remember they were right on the goaline in front of me that final drive, i was in like th 8th row or something got some great pics, but seeing them throw was maddening, i didnt even bother developing the pictures...

Hold on here. You want to write him off as a good kickoff guy because of one kick? :shakeno:

Ever since that '02 game/season... yes, Mare had an average '03 campaign, and was injured much of last year. No, he hasn't yet earned his pay. But, the guy is only 31. Plenty of very productive years left as a kicker in the NFL. We're not talking about a 38 year old who has lost his leg.

Any argument placing blame on a KICKER for losing out on the playoffs for two years is sadly short-sighted.

u wanna talk abouit blaming kickers look no further than the j e t s jets jets jets last year, and even the kid from the chargers allowing the jets to advance to play pitss...you honestly think mare misses those kicks...cmon now he actually was number 2 on the all time accuracy list behind longwell, he may even have gotten to number 1 for a bit. injuries happen, he will be back

I'm not writing him off as a bad kickoff guy because of one kick, but he hasn't exactly been a touchback machine like he once was.

As for placing blame on a kicker for missing out on the playoffs. A kicker is part of the team, he had multiple opportunities to beat the Patriots in Miami in 2003 and blew it. He also had the opportunity to defeat another team (Houston maybe?? I'm drawing a blank right now.) Anyway the point is, if he earns his money we are most definitely in the playoffs in 2003. Anyone who fails to recognize this is blind. :shakeno:

ive actually made a 40 yarder with no rush off the ground, barely. kicking a football is so freaking hard, and 45 to 55 yards is a long long way. factor in wind, field conditions game situation, and its no easy task. can u fault a kicker for missing a kick YES. but i dont belireve u can fault them alone for losing a game. football players dont like relying on a kicker. think about it if you make 78% of your kicks and half from 50 yards and out, thats pretty impressive, add in the factors above and its no easy task. fault the team for letting it come down to the kicker to decide a game

I say we hang on to what we have. Mare is a proven kicker. We just need to make sure the Marlins are done playing baseball as soon as possible.

Dr. Dolphin 24/7
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but aren't the Marlins getting kicked out of Dolphin's Stadium?

Edit: I was wrong, they are still there.

I wish. They haven't been kicked out yet. It's a work in progress.

With 24 touchbacks on kickoffs in 2003, Mare led the NFL in that category.

He missed the second half of last season because of injury. When did he hit that decline?

As far as earning his money... I guess if the D had earned their money, than NE wouldn't have scored. Or, if the O had earned their money, Mare would have been kicking extra points and not FG's.

Look, everyone has down times. I hate hearing how a QB loses games by himself. Mare, did not cost the Fins the playoffs without some help from his fellow teammates.

I'm not sure if anyone else has brought this up but isn't Todd France Ronnie's agent?
