cut mare

I agree.

While he is still a very good kicker, he is not a good value for his salary.

Hopefully, he can have a great year this year

I think he is a very good kick off specialist as opposed to "a very good kicker" at this point in the game.....

I agree that Mare sucks. But there's no one out there better than him. We can't cut him and bring in someone worse.

The way he has been playing the last 2 years, I'd be more than happy with some camp competition. But I don't think cutting him is cap friendly. Anyone know his cap number? Anyone know of any good available kickers?
nope. He's the best we got. All the best kickers are pretty much signed to long term deals. If we release him, he would be picked up within seconds of going into the waiver wire.

With the cap hit we'd take it just doesn't make financial sense to cut him.

why dont we draft a kicker in the second round of next years draft?
the jets think its a good idea

time to say goodbye to him !!!!!

you guys are entitled to your opinions but frankly you know nothing about football. Thank god your not in charge. A bad kicker can kill you all season (see jets). Mare is not a bad kicker. If you fools were to cut him you would regret it all next season. special teams is very important at this competition level. Mare will be playing for us this season and will have a good year.

The Jets only had a kicker cost them at the end of the season. Similar to Stoyanovich in his playoff meltdown. Anyway no one heard of Mare when he was brought in for competion with Nedney. So there has got to be someone out there. Vinatieri and Longwell were undrafted. His kickoffs are still good but the FG's have suffered. If its Blevins gone the dirt or anything just make the kicks for that much money. I believe he is the third highest paid kicker in football.

Ok. Let's pretend he's cut. Now what????

Get the point? You have to have someone to replace him with. He may be past his prime but you don't cut someone without a plan. Otherwise you make knee jerk decisions.

This Mare and the NE talk is BS...the offense couldn't move the ball, Wanny played (as usual) not to lose, and in crunch time (as usual) the D let us down...it's not Mare's fault for that loss. Look back to that game and you'll remember that even tho it hurt when he missed the last kick, he was NOT the main cause for that loss.

Mare has not been the same since Westhoff and Blevins were canned by Wanny...thanks again for screwing the Fins, Wanny...

Mare probably will do a restructure next year, but his salary is not excessive by standards that he has set...he is still in the top 5 or 6 accuracy for his career, despite missing two kicks when injured last season. His KOs into the endzone is a big part of any success our ST have had in his career here. Let it be...he's not the problem...our problems are...well...that's for another thread...

Sweet thanks for the info!!! What kind of year will A.J. have? Chambers? Will you help me draft my fantasy team??? Your vast football knowledge and ability to see in to the future could really help me out. Thanks again!!

To be fair he has been hurt the past two seasons. I could also go off on the predictable tangent about the baseball turf but I wont. No argument, he is no longer the most acurate kicker in the NFL. You can say all you want about missing a 40 yarder at minicamp; I also saw him nail three consecutive 60 yarders at minicamp, on wet turf, against the wind. He is still one of the better kickers in the league and in a clutch, there are only three or four kickers I would take over him.
