cut mare

Ohhhhhhhhh........... wait until the Mare fanbois show up.

He hasn't been reliable on FG since Blevins left.

He makes one of three kicks in 2003 (Houston, NE (2x)) we make playoffs and NE is outside looking in.

Why did we ever let go of Blevins? Bring him back!!

im tired of this guy's bad kicks,we need a new kicker!!!!Last yr he missed alot the yr before he cost us the pats game by missing (2)30 yard kicks!!!missing 40 yard kicks at mini camp..wow has he fallen from the RANKS!!!!But the biggest thing im tired of is his high salary too!!!! What do we pay this guy anyways over 2 million a yr....way too much money on a kicker!!!

And replace him with who ?

how much can the dirt hurt ...it's just a weak excuse!!!

you just showed how much you know about kicking. this is not a recent complaint. i guess miami is waiting for the phins to win a super bowl? cause the marlins won 2 World Series yet they dont have the fan base to build a new home in miami. dirt is absolutly horrible on kickers, however if i were mare, i would practice some on dirt cause its been part of playing in miami for some time now.

(There is absolutly nobody out there to replace mare with for a reasonable price, and kicker isnt the possition you wana just "wing it" with.)

Mare spoiled Dolfans in his prime years to the point that they have unrealistic expectations of kickers now (somewhat like how Marino spoiled us in regards to QBs). Mare is still one of the top Ks in career FG% ALL-TIME. Even if you wasted the cap space and cut him because you hate him even though it's cheaper to keep him than cut him, who's better that you actually can realistically sign?

this is absolutely mind boggling to me... Olindo Mare is not only a far above average kicker, but he's a terrific athlete who still blasts kickoffs, makes terrific tackles and is absolutely LOVED in the locker room...

i, for one, am more than happy with him... rather than go with the unknown on the kicking merry-go-round that soooooo many teams struggle with year after year... the Dolphins haven't had 1/4 the amount of kicking problems most teams have suffered with for 20 years... we've been very blessed, overall, with Reveiz (sp?), Stoyo, and now Olindo...

if you think you're gonna go out and find a Vanderjagt or Elam, you really need to quit sniffing glue... this is the kind of thinking that would seek to replace a career sub-3.00 ERA starting pitcher in baseball because he had a 3.50 ERA one year... c'mon...

Wow. Why don't you read what is written before you go off on what you "guess" the writer intended. For further clarification, you might look at, oh, say, my post two posts below the one you responded to.

We already have no safety, no good 2nd cornerback, no LT, no reliable 3rd or maybe even 2nd receiver (depending on how you see it) , no QB , no healthy DT and next year also no Seau and probably no Madison.

Yeah, let's go on and kick out Mare too. Then we do not have a kicker. We have more money this year, but what for? He does earn too much money, yes, but you wanne do about it? He won't restructure. And cutting him does not save enough money to fill any other holes. And it is not like good kickers run around on the street begging for jobs. there is a reason the Jets drafted a kicker in the 2nd round.
The only thing I am wondering how much it hurt him to lose that kicking coach we once had and who I think also coached a high school team or collega eteam and therefore had to leave.

One thing I don't think you all are considering: with our new offensive scheme, we'll see less drives stalling out in what Gregg Easterbrook (The Monday Quarterback) calls "The Maroon Zone" -- iffy field goal distance. I think you'll see a sharp dropoff in Mare's attempts from 40 yards or more -- and less opportunities for possible misses -- as a result.

This Mare and the NE talk is BS...the offense couldn't move the ball, Wanny played (as usual) not to lose, and in crunch time (as usual) the D let us down...it's not Mare's fault for that loss. Look back to that game and you'll remember that even tho it hurt when he missed the last kick, he was NOT the main cause for that loss. ..
are you serious?

Mare missed 3 kicks. THREE.

his job is only to kick. Whatever wannstedt's gameplan was or what the offense was doing is a non-factor. Mare had 2 chances to win the game in the 4th quarter, and one chance in overtime. I don't care if one was blocked, he still missed it. trajectory is another thing kickers control.

missed all 3.

that is un-forgiveable.

while i agree there is no one else better out there, he NEEDS to take a pay cut. Knock him down to vet min but offer a bunch of incentives to give him the ability to work up to the 2 million, but only if he EARNS it by meeting those incentives. if he keeps playing like crap then he will get paid as such.

we can miss field goals all day long with a cheaper kicker, guys.

if nothing else lower his salary and keep his as a kickoff specialist, and bring in another guy for FGs.

Thats fine and dandy Doc, but Mare's biggest problem in the last 2 years IMO has been in the 30-39 yds range. He is hit them at around 69%.

I know he was hurt last year and maybe he played liked that, but 2 years ago, at that range he hit 50%...

how many important kicks will mare miss this yr?

Not as many as the last few years because we have a winning mindset this year. Kicking field goals is all about your mentality

How many games will mare win this yr for da fins?

Hopefully it wont come down to him winning games for us, he will put a few games away for us though:)

I am not all that crazy about Mare anymore, especially of the way he has done lately, and wouldn't re-structure his contract to help the team. I wouldn't lose any sleep at night if he was gone!

I was checking my Fantasy Football mag and Mare wasn't even in the top 25 and his kickoffs are getting shorter and shorter....I can understand why we keep him with his salary....I hope this is his last year.....we need to take a guy named Crosby from the Univ. of Colorado...he kicked a 60 yarder last year and he is as good as Mike Nugent who was with Ohio State and now with the Jets.
