Darlington: Dolphins will take time with GM hire, might not be this week

why would 1 combine and/or 1 game take precedence over 3 or 4 years of college football?

it doesnt take presedence it helps affirm grades or tells them to go back and take some more looks if they dont show what they expect off the tape...at the end of the day the tape should be the deciding factor but what on tape said dion jordan was the top prospect in the entire draft class last year??? yet he somehow ended up on top of our board...i can tell ya why cause he's as fluid on tape and a burst athlete there as he affirmed he was at the combine drills and workout etc...in a 6 ft 6 plus package no less...hell his cod ability to drop his hips and footwork was high end corner like...that guy at the top of the board is as much if not more about future upside as it is about his tape...

they are watching guys feet hips cod lateral agility balance you name it they are watching it...jarvis jones was considered a very high rated prospect til he came out and ran like a balloon and showed off average burst and explosion in workouts...now granted i saw that on college tape said as much but he didn't drop like a stone til he crapped out with his workouts etc...i always knew that was more hype than win edge pass rusher against nfl tackles

I told you it didn't particularly matter who they sent to the Senior Bowl because the work was mostly done. You told me this was not true. I have now shown you definitively that it is true.

Now if you want to disagree with their methods that's one thing, but these are their methods.

you said the boards dont move very much and i said the top of the board is fluid throughout the process...and i stand behind it...and i said guys drop and rise off how they show in the postseason process...and i stand behind it

Walrus said 90%, not that it is done, final, cannot be changed etc.

So Rick Smith, a former scout and that GM Peter King quoted are wrong then? About how they scout and set the board?

i think they are only giving you bits and pieces...and its being taken as a flat face value too much...i know what the process involves

 Ok, then hoops. They're talking in detail about how they do it and using definitive terms like "90 percent set"... but I suppose there's no arguing with someone who says he knows more about what the process involves than the people who are actually part of the process.

so you drink up everything you are told when it comes to this game if it comes from someone in the game i take it...ok...more power to you...cause you know they never white lie or anything

tell rick smith to send me that almost done draft board so i can see how it looks come may draft day..i'm sure it's written in pencil

I have no idea what you are stating?

just you being you...offer no insight throw out a one liner and talk a little smack...

To be fair, for teams like Oakland (previous years), Tennessee (previous years), Dallas and Washington, where the owners are calling the shots based on the hype machine, the draft boards aren't set until the ESPN hype machine figures out who it wants to puff up.

The Redskins traded like three #1s for Robert Griffin 3-13. That's still unbelievable to me.

Agreed. At least, the Redskins can go back to doing what Snyder does best... throwing boatloads of $$$ at players who underachieve in WDC.

Good question. Maybe you should ask the Jets since they took Stephan Hill 43rd overall in 2012 after a 3 year career that included 49 receptions for 1248 yards and 9 TDs...did I mention that's over 3 years? Maybe it was the 4.36 he ran at the combine.

What would he have to gain by "lying" about it?

What reason would they have to lie about this? What reason would, more to the point, a former scout have to lie about it? What purpose could it serve?

It's telling you're not offering any actual information or sources here. Only innuendo and vague statements like "I know how the process works." Based on what, do you know? Who told you? Where did you read it? Oh, that's right... you already said it doesn't matter what these guys say about how the process works because they're all lying and you really know how it works.

I'm all about the virtues of skepticism and not being credulous but I'm not about deliberately being ignorant and appealing just to my intuition as source material.

GMs don't divulge their draft methods, who they're interested in, how they evaluate players...none of that stuff. Too much information would give another team a better educated guess in who they might take and that puts him at a disadvantage. Another team could trade up in front of them and take the player they want.

Didn't Ross tell Ireland that the HC and GM will report to a czar type and thats why Ireland walked? If so, could the czar be Mangini? Or was Ross trying to make Ireland quit? Was Farmer with the browns with Mangini and Aponte?
