How do Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, GM Jeff Ireland survive this?

No matter what comes next we've seen enough of this Jonathan Martin saga to know it ultimately ends inside the Dolphins with the end of coach Joe Philbin and General Manager Jeff Ireland.

If there is going to be leadership to trust after this toxic mess, which is like an oil spill in the Gulf Coast, there will have to be change at the top. Usually you can win your way out of trouble in pro sports. Philbin and Ireland can't here.

This isn't because of any lack of decency or some involved dumbness as happens in some scandals. What you see is a different kind of ignorance at work here, the kind that comes when inexperienced people meet a series of unfortunate events.

Phindog - journalists everywhere should thank you for protecting what integrity they have left. :brewskis:

I'm struggling to understand why some people on here are taking the Philbin thing personally. At the end of the day the Dolphins franchise is a business. Yes, Joe Philbin maybe a good guy, but if this happened in any other business, its management that takes the fall. They may not know whats happened, but its happened regardless of who knows what and when. If he Philbin doesn't know, he should have made it his business to know in the first place. Just because someone doesn't approach you or tell you, any good manager/CEO etc needs to keep an eye on the pulse. Philbin didn't, this is the big league, needs to learn maybe, but an NFL head coach position at a proud franchise shouldn't be a learning curve, otherwise continue to be an co-ordinator and stay in your bubble.

If Philbin gets fired, he won't get any sympathy from he, he will most likely get a payoff us 9-5 workers can only dream off & most likely another team takes a chance on him for employment. This is what happens in the real world, if you want to get into management you take the risks that come with the job, otherwise you pick up trash and remain a janitor.
