See below article, google and many other articles are out there......
The reason I believe it is true, the league is desperate to get this offset language in contracts with 1st round picks to further squeeze the players when it comes to compensation and guaranteed contracts, think about it....if Tannehill his cut and signs with another team then the dolphins will only be on the hook for the difference instead of the full amount owed, this makes it easier to cut a 1st rd pick instead of giving him another yr to grow. To me its the league being greedy and we are the perfect team to make a stand......We have two veteran QB in camp, our coaching staff is new, first time HC coach, he probably wouldn't play much this yr to begin with and our owner wants to host a Super Bowl in his stadium.......If they can get Tannehill to sign the offset language Ross will be a hero among the owners......
Ireland is clearly not calling the shots on this, the one thing you could always count on is him signing his draft picks, after the CBA when things were supposed to easier we get this, something smells
Tannehill only leverage is to wait it out and threaten to go back in the draft...... but would he be a top 10 pick next yr? The kid is in a bad situation and so his his agent, who wants to be the first agent to allow his player to sign this?
I'm not optimistic this will get done soon
Conventional wisdom says that Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III's completed contracts will result in the rest of the unsigned first-round draft picks quickly following suit. The Miami Dolphins may have something to say about that. ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio reports that the Dolphins are "digging in" during negotiations with quarterback Ryan Tannehill with respect to potential "offset" language in his contract. The Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins did not insist on such language for Luck and RG3, which helps protect teams financially in case a player is released. Dawn Aponte, the Miami Dolphins vice president of administration, once worked for the league's management council and is reportedly insisting on offset language, according to Florio.
