Dealing Wake in the off-season....

Email me first....ill bring backup.

Why are fans so quick to want to deal good players at positions that we have depth then criticize the drafting ability of the gm to backfill that depth? One of the reasons we have a strong D is because our front 4 are deep and rotate all game staying fresh. If one gets hurt, like earlier this year, we aren't fumbling around to have players like we have done on the OL.

It was an age issue....Wake will be 32 next season and while he plays at a high level still the bottom could drop out...I perposed the trade because he still has considerable trade value at this point and as an option other then just cutting him in a couple of year when his play does drop due to age.

Where do you people come up with this ****? No wonder you all love Ireland and losing. It would make perfect sense to him...

Bellicheck would trade him and would get a first rounder for him, subsequently coaching up his replacement so their DL doesnt miss a beat and the replacement getting 10 sacks every year.

Ireland on the other hand would net a 2nd rounder at best and to a playoff team, so it would be a low second rounder, subsequently the coaching staff would fail in coaching up his replacement and we would be looking at another Ogunleye for Marty Booker and Will Poole type trade.

So with that being said, we defitinitely shouldnt trade him.

Vernon is having a good year but some of the thanks belongs to wake and the amount of attention teams give him. Lose wake and Vernon stats fall
Agree. I noticed last game that the Jets were consistently rolling the protection towards Wake - the double teams, the chip help, the play action were all going his way. What that meant was lots of one-on-one for OV, and lots of gaps in the middle for stunts/blitz pressure. Wake's presence shows up in everyone else's stats.

Having said that, trading away your marquee players is always a sensitive and tricky subject. The standard scenario is to hang on to them too long, finally letting them go for peanuts/nothing, and then they end up playing their twilight years on another team, possibly holding a grudge towards their original team. Trouble is it's hard to get good value for an aging star. Wake's great contract helps his trade value, but then if we're getting bang for the buck, why would we trade? It's not easy.

even if he were declining -- which i don't believe is the case ... he has not fully recovered from his knee injuy and still commands attention -- to which OV has been the beneficiary.

we need him to set the example ... of staying in shape, leading by example, etc .... if he goes, exactly who is going to do that .... John Jerry???

Wake's value to the PHINS go beyond his performance on the field - right now today .... now after the '14 season, you could relook the situation and maybe its different.

to win in this league, you must be able to pressure the QB ... and having Wake, OV and a healthy, improved Jordan will go a long way next year !!!

I know there's a soft spot for Wake by just about everybody here, including myself. But the drafting of DJ and the emergence of OV, does have to put this on the table. If some team that needs a pass rusher as a final piece calls with a 1st or a 2nd, any GM will listen hard. It's business.

Oh for f*** sakes! I just sucked it up and bought my Wake jersey after swearing i'd never buy a "current" player again! I have no more room next to my 2 Marshall's, 2 William's, Welker, Culpepper, and Pennington!

This is the reason why I will never buy another NFL jersey again. Well current players at least. Id buy old players jerseys like JT, Ricky, PS or SM (I have MArino and Zack) but i will never buy a current players jersey, ever.

Don't you love it when one poster comes up with a questionable idea, and everyone gets labeled as fans who love losing?

Again it was a thought to infuse more youth into a team that is in dire need to talent in key areas. Wake has been and is a great player, but he is getting older and will not play at the same level he has in the past. The Phins can hold onto him and maybe he returns to form next year or maybe he has another season like this one and the Dolphins get less trade value. Some have too much love for a player and grasp that trading away a player like Wake could benefit the team in the long run.

I can use Jake long as an example...if the Phins traded him away before the 2012 draft (he got hurt, his play declined) they could have netted a first rounded (still viewed as an elite LT). The Phins held on and Jake went through another injury filled season filled with mediocre play only to allow him to walk during free agency. I'm not saying that will happen to Wake, but franchises that experience long term success over many seasons make these decisions.

Let me say this, Cam Wake sets an awesome example for the younger guys. That alone makes him worth keeping.

The guy is just flat out awesome as a human being.

Being a 32 year old athlete who is nowhere near as athletic as Cam Wake I can tell you the bottom doesn't drop out- it tapers off. When it tapers you use him situationally a la Jason Taylor.

I propose we don't trade him, don't cut him, but instead have him retire here.
