Dealing Wake in the off-season....

Cam Wake is a multiplier. His presence along the line helps everyone else on the line. Until you have a proven replacement, you don't trade that away.

Let me say this, Cam Wake sets an awesome example for the younger guys. That alone makes him worth keeping.

The guy is just flat out awesome as a human being.

^^^ This. We have gone through a s&!tstorm this year because we don't have enough responsible veteran leadership. Why trade away one of the good guys on our squad? Two of the offseason failures was not re-signing an aging veteran leader in Bush, and cutting Dansby loose. Should we keep shooting ourselves in the foot just to keep getting younger?

I read an article in the offseason about how Cam Wake got a bunch of guys on the DL to go on his super efficient no fat no sugar diet -- including our much improved O. Vernon, I believe -- and I just thought to myself, 'yup this guy really is that awesome.'

OV looks it...he is jacked this year. If only Wake approached John Jerry with that. Actually, maybe Wake approached McKinnie and that's why he wanted his contract voided next year.

I saw it mentioned in another thread about cutting Wake before the 2015 season and it gave me an idea...

If Vernon continues to play at the level he is for the remainder of the season, and Dion Jordan continues to develop, could the Dolphins deal Wake?

I love Wake and he has consistently been one of the defender in the NFL, but he is getting older and would have a pretty high trade value. With a plethora od holes to fill in the off season and having an extra (or couple of extra) early picks could be beneficial to filling those holes.

Second question.....what is his trade value?

Yeah... Lets trade one of the two probowlers we have on defense (Grimes being the other)

Vernon is a surprise and Jordan has potential, but one can never have enough good pass rushers and less get rid off one of the better ones in the entire NFL.

Giving away our Best Player? And Leader? Great idea Dude! That sounds like the Dolphins (Wes Welker, Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush, Etc.)

Seeing as the one surefire way to beat the top tier QBs is getting into their face, I don't see how anyone can possibly even entertain the idea of trading away ANY established passrusher, never mind a top tier one...

How about we build a team for the present and get out of the mode of working towards the future.
We let way too many good players go in the name of building. That works when you already have a great team.
Do we need to go through the list...Welker, Long, Bush, Marshall.

It blows my mind how comfortable posters are in spending the year talking about next year, year after year.
How about we spend every last dime trying to make a great team. Why we didn't pick up a LT this offseason is beyond me.
Wake! Come on.
Long and Bush should not have been parted with.

Long became Mediocre and was injury prone he also didn't fit the current offensive scheme so I understand letting him walk...

Reggie is still a mystery....

The only reason to consider trading him is his age. Let's face it, he has 2-3 years of production left. Guys rarely play past 34-35. He is going to be 32 next year. If he were 26-27, I wouldn't give it any consideration at all. However, if a contender came along and offered is a low 1st or a package of comparable value for him, I would trade him.

Nobody's going to offer a king's ransom for a guy his age. IMO, right now he is most valuable to us as a guy who still produces at a solid level and mentors younger players.

Even though I suggested the idea I wouldn't take anything other then a 1st....again it has add value to the team. I wouldn't let him go for a late second or worse, but if someone wanted to part ways for a 1st....with the depth at the DE position on the roster....why not consider it?

OK so Long became mediocre, I don't think so personally, what would you call our left tackle performance the first half of the year? I would call it less than mediocre.

Because we need to stop looking for draft picks and begin keeping good players.
Now is not the time, check back a year from now.

I would consider it for a first, even though I can't imagine anyone would offer that. But I'm starting to think that this team has made so many trades 'for value' and shipped off good players with leadership qualities that at some point we have to make a conscious decision to keep one of them. I will try not to bring up Reggie Bush every time in these discussions, but... Reggie Bush.

Guys, it was just a question that the OP, is offering up for discussion. I wouldn't want to get rid of him, because it is because of Wake that Vernon is getting to the QB.
