Derek Jeter is the most overrated player according to his peers

his VORP numbers are average at best (14.4 last yr.. Arod had a 62) ... and hes a 6'3" 20 hop opposite field singles hitter.

Value Over Replacement, and is probably the best stat in baseball along with Win Shares. Those stats are not "made up" they are very valuable in determing the importance of players on their given team.

And unless you watch EVERY player play EVERY game, it's impossible to base opinions off just "watching them", that's why statistics are used to garner unbias arguments. People who watch the Yankees all the time, would tell you Jeter is better than Michael Young. Jeter ain't nowhere near Michael Young. But how many Yankee fans watch Texas Ranger games too? See how that "watch the games" argument doesn't hold up?

watching the games in the playoffs....did you miss the whole point of it?

If anything jeter is vastly underrated

Well, that's just a completely ridiculous statement.

That's on par with Brady's "we don't get any respect" tantrum. Gimme a break, he's a great player who is neither under nor overrated.

How about we just leave it at that?

Brady is the perfect example, he also is underrated. people go gag over #s guys like ARod when he was a SS and Manning but guys like Jeter and Brady put up very good #s and come through when their teams need them unlike the other 2 mentioned.

I'm still stuck in the pst a bit as I am transitioning to the new #s but according the the #s in this weeks SI Jeter is the best all around of Toung, Tejada and jeter.

Derek Jeter of the Yankees, Miguel Tejada of the Orioles and Michael Young of the Rangers are the holy trinity of American League shortstops. From the start of the 2005 season through Sunday, Young -- one of only five shortstops to win an AL batting title -- was the best hitter of the three based on his Value over Replacement Player ranking. (VORP is a statistical measurement of a player's run contribution in comparison to a below-average hitter who plays his position.) But according to the Fielding Runs Above Average (FRAA) measurement (an analysis of a fielder's performance that assigns credit or blame for runs scored), Young's defense allowed nine more runs than the average shortstop's. By the same criteria Jeter is the lesser hitter of the three, but he makes up for it with superior glovework. For the best balance of offense and defense, Tejada is the choice.
SHORTSTOP VORP FRAA TOTAL
Jeter 79.7 11 90.7
Tejada 83.9 2 85.9
Young 82.9 -9 73.9
