Hester tells PBP writer @JRWagner5 that 13 teams are interested in him and the #Dolphins have reached out.

RIVIERA BEACH —

Devin Hester could end up in a Miami Dolphins uniform by the summer.

The free agent wide receiver and kick returner, who spent eight years with the Chicago Bears before parting ways this month, said the Dolphins are one of 13 teams that have expressed interest in signing him.

A three-time Pro Bowler who holds the NFL record for return touchdowns with 20, Hester would welcome an opportunity to play for his hometown team.

He grew up in Riviera Beach, graduated from Suncoast High School and played college football at the University of Miami.

“I grew up watching them,” Hester, 31, said of the Dolphins. “It’s closer to home. It’s closer to my family.”

Hester, who was in town Saturday for a free youth football clinic sponsored by the city of Riviera Beach and his year-old foundation, the Anytime 23 Empowerment Center, said the Dolphins’ recent bullying scandal is not an issue for him.

“I’m going to let my agent and the upstairs guys on offense work out the details,” he said. “What’s fair is fair.”

In the meantime, Hester, who lives in Orlando, is focusing much of his attention on his foundation.

Hester is still an elite return man? He has more return TDs than anybody else yes, but, that just means his time is running out. There's a reason the 2nd guy on that list didn't have more....he got old. And just because we sign Hester doesn't mean we'd cut Thigpin. Thigpin simply gives us more than Hester. HESTER CAN'T CATCH!!!!!! No, he won't be a 4th WR. Who you taking time from? Wallace, Gibson, Hartline, Matthews?lol
I was speaking to a larger point about elite specialists over mediocre jack of all trades. Hester's not what he was, but if the greatest of all time still has some juice in the tank then I'd expect him to be a considerable improvement on what Thigpen gave us last year. Considering what Marcus showed amongst a group of terrible RBs, he shouldn't be taking snaps away from anyone. He didn't give us anything last year that shouldn't be looked to be improved on. Hester's seen plenty of snaps as a receiver and could probably make as much impact as Thigpen did. But who gives a **** since that's not what he'd be here for. The only reason you wouldn't pursue Hester as an improvement is if the ongoing reduction of the return game makes them almost entirely irrelevant, in which case it doesn't matter much who we have returning kicks.

Hester had far, far better return numbers than both Sproles and Ginn last year - and of course much better than Thigpen too. Also - he and Ginn both started playing WR in the NFL in 2007 and Hester has more career catches, yards, and TD's than Ginn in that span - and that's without playing WR at all last year. Hester is an infinitely better option than Ginn and a major upgrade over Thigpen. We can debate Sproles as Sproles can play RB and is a threat as a receiver - but I'd take Hester over any of the other options discussed.

this team has not put a premium on having a REAL DEAL return specialist in 25 years or better.

hester isnt what he was 5 years ago, but he is still top 3 in the nfl as a r/s and can still bust the home run at any time. he will give us great field position more often than not.

he never was a big threat at wr so were not losing anything there.

GOLDEN TATE is another guy i want. i love our wr corp right now. if our qb can get up to speed wallace and hartline are pro bowl players. but the thing with tate is he is a KILLER punt returner and can line up at any wr spot. he is not a liabliity or prop as a wr so there is great value there.

i wanted sproles in the worst way as he is better than ANY rb we have on the roster now and is still one of the best return men in the nfl. a #5 pick wouldnt have been good for us, but someone like the eagles who are loaded can afford that luxery. HOPEFULLY there is not some unknown thing going on with hester and its just the money he was due that got him cut.

i to would LOVE for him to be a dolphin.

Tate signed with the Lions a few days ago

Hester would be a big upgrade over Thigpen.

You have to remember that if he comes in as a kick return guy that he takes a spot from our roster since he can't really play any other position

we got about 40 guys who cant play their position much lessx another, so big deal!!

many teams have a spot for JUST a return specialist. most of the TRUE return guys dont do anything else but that. sproles is the exception ass you can line him up as your starting rb, he can play wr.

everyone saying how thigpin is this better value because he comes out twice a season and lines up at rb makes him the ticket. but what exactly has he accomplished ANYTIME he got his token rb carry?

NOTHING!! and hester has lined up more at wr than thiggy has rb and done more with it. hester is STILL the better player and better value.

god, people act like we have some shortage of players thatcan be booted. blindfold yourself, pic one and then send him on the greyhound and sign hester with his money.

simple.

Oh ok, you should probably say what you mean then from now on. We would not have had that confusion. Hmm, Marcus had 2 TDs last season, how many did Hester have? 1. Hester also fumbled 5 times in 70 return opportunities, Thigpin fumbled 3 times in 73 opportunities(kick and punt combined for both). Thigpin did give the Dolphins an offensive TD, a receiving one, Hester didn't have one all last year. Hester is simply an option at this point in his career and yes, he is an improvement over Thigpin in the return game but, by how much considering his advanced and advancing age? And if you want to gauge Hester's accomplishments as a WR last season, please, go look up the stats and then get back to me.lol I have a feeling you will have a change of heart about his receiving prowess.lol

I met him at my HS. He graduated from the same HS as me. Plus he's one of my favorite Canes and players in the NFL. I would love this move.

I'm neither for or against bringing Hester in. Just thought I'd post this for entertainment purposes...

Grow up before you reply to me again if you'd like anyone to take your responses seriously.

If Miami's looking at return specialist why not go with Trendon Holliday? He's younger and better right now than Hester or Thigpen.

Because he's a fumble machine and the Broncos benched him on punt returns

LOL. SenSiTive. lol Didn't realize you were so emotional, my bad. But, did you check out Hester's receiving stats last season though? I'd assume a lil growing up is needed if you think "Hester's seen plenty of snaps as a receiver". Again, did you see Hester's stats last season as a WR? Take it seriously OR not.... but, FACT is, Hester sucks as a WR and his returning skills are diminishing. Anytime a 32y/o has to advertise a 40 time from last week, with no evidence, to make people(like you) think he still has it, isn't worth much. AND IF YOU CHECK HIS RECEIVING STATS FROM LAST SEASON YOU WILL SEE THEY WERE WORTH NOTHING!!!!!!!! Literally nothing!!!
