Under ... it started when they came out of the bye week flat and cemented when they went into the Tampa game flat. Add Ratfink and losses to Geno's Myth and Chadwho Lewis into the mix and underachieved is really an understatement.
 funny how you hear all these people talk about how their team is going to the playoffs this year, but when you ask them if they want to put money on it they change the subject. We underperformed easily... so what, you expected us to win 10+ games about this time last year? Based on what exactly? Tannehill's 78 passer rating as a rookie? Jeff Ireland's tremendous track record? Dion Jordan and the rest of the injury riddled players we signed/drafted? The $23 million we carried in liquid cash?
I would have bet my shirt on over 6.5 but wouldn't have sniffed 8.0. Same goes for this season, I'll bet anybody any amount on over 6.5 but 8.5 would be untouchable for me. I would grudgingly bet the over on 8 if you twisted my arm, which means the team is trending up for me. So for me we met expectations, which is a disappointment, but it is what it is with a raw, inexperienced QB and Head Coach. If Tannehill really is "the franchise" I expect at least 9 wins this season.
There is a big difference between hope and expectations. Expectations are what you would put real cash on.
I don't understand this thinking. The team should be much better just from the growth in Tannehill and the addition of Lazor alone, without even mentioning the fact that we should get major contributions from the last 2 draft classes. The o-line may not be great but I don't see how you can expect it to be worse. The line got better with McKinnie, it would have been a lot better still had McKinnie been signed in the offseason and had time to get acclimated to our system. The fact that Albert is >>>> McKinnie and has the entire offseason to train in our system is huge.
Anyway, back to my point:
I'm capable of shooting even par in golf if everything goes perfectly but my handicap is 12, so what should my expectation be? If I'm even par with 2 holes left and end up 4 over (this actually happened) did I perform below expectations?
If the team is better, and it should be if you really believe in Tannehill, then your expectations should go up, not down. Am I the one looking at this the wrong way? :idk:
You don't see how we can expect our OL to be worse?? A case can be made that we downgraded every position but LT, from this tme last year.
Martin < Albert
Richie > Dallas
Pouncey > Garner/Larsen/Brenner
Jerry > Garner/Brenner/Turner (Shelley will not be in the mix for starter, he is a backup at best)
Clabo > James (Clabo was a probowl RT who was injured early, but came on at the end of the season to play like a top 15 RT. If you look at the top 3 OTs from last year they all were much higher talent than James and all struggled their first year. James will not have the great rookie season that most around here believe. He is no where near as polished as some of the guys coming out last year.
As for those thinking Benton is going to turn this thing around, isn't that what everyone was saying about Turner?? Benton got ran out of town from his last gig, after fielding an OL with twice as much talent as ours, but performed about as good as ours. Maybe he is better but not by as much as many around here think. We just don't have the interior talent to be a better OL. If we signed John Jerry he would instantly be our best OG by quite a large margin, and thats not good.
Yes worse is possible but are you expecting us to have the worst line in franchise history in back to back years? And in my opinion the majority of sack percentage comes from factors outside of the talent level of the 5 guys on the o-line. The QB plays a big part. The offensive coordinator plays a big part. And the RB/TE plays a big part. All of which I'm expecting to be better.
Had Peyton Manning been our QB I don't think we would have sniffed 40 sacks let alone 60.
He would of been done when clabo your top 15 gave the inside free to Mario..

He never would have allowed that to happen, that's the point.
Under, and it really doesn't even warrant much if a discussion. They spent a lot of money in the offseason and were clearly gunning for a big season. 2008 was an overachievement. Last season was just same ol disappointing dolphins.
