Dion Jordan for Lane Johnson and Eagles 22nd pick?

I have a very high opinion of Jordan. In the right scheme, he can negate any TE in the NFL like another "Neon Dion" did to WR's in years gone by. His athleticism, height, speed, and NBA arms make him the perfect defender vs any TE. True story.

Add in his pass rush, and he can be a lethal game changer. I would not trade him for any OT in the game. He can be that good.

... but I'd rather we switch to 3-4 and keep DJ... imo we've got stronger 3-4 players now than our past 3-4 regimes

I agree that keeping him, now that we have him, and utilizing him, even if it has to be in another scheme, should be the first option. But in retrospect, I certainly wouldn't have made that pick.

You know, you think we're all crazy negative, but we're really not. I walked into my office after the draft and got some looks you wouldn't believe. Nobody could understand why my team picked Jordan. I had to defend the pick.

Same thing right now with Philbin. I'm having pizza for lunch, and the owner is discussing football with me and he's asking me why Joe Philbin is still here, if we fired our GM? I really had no answer.

So, hopefully things work out this year, I'm always optimistic with each new season.

Dion Jordan would not be in any of these trade scenarios if they moved him to linebacker.

The answer is that in the owner's eyes, the GM had sufficient time to demonstrate his incompetence, whereas Philbin has had insufficient time to demonstrate either his competence or his incompetence. If you fire head coaches before they've clearly demonstrated their incompetence, then you run the risk of dissuading coaches from accepting your job offers in the future.

Ireland didn't draft Ronnie Brown. That was a Saban era brainstorm.

Jordan may be able to cover tight ends but I'm dubious how often that's a viable option, and how long before opponents would figure out how to exploit it. That's too few plays to make it an emphasis, IMO. It reminds me of late '80s when I made a huge bet on Paul Azinger to win a British Open matchup, based on his excellence out of the bunker. I won the bet comfortably. Heck he nearly won the tournament, faltering late to lose by 1 shot to Nick Faldo. But quickly I realized that sand shots were so infrequent that you couldn't base a wager around them. Eventually I found putts per GIR and driving distance, which are the golf equivalent of YPPA Differential and rush attempt differential.

I can't think of anyone with a frame like Jordan who became a great player on defense. Everyone had more of a base. I think it's an interesting experiment that will return moderate payout.

a 34 team would trade you a pick in the 20's for dion jordan in a heartbeat...

and who knows maybe this offseason the kid comes back having put on 15 lbs of good weight and can play more in base and worked on his edge pass rush...he's got the tools to do it all but right now you have a guy that you can't play in the base d in a 43 at end...

lane johnson on the other hand started every game to my knowledge and took every snap at right tackle from the jump and when jason peters is let go down the road they have a guy to make a seamless transition to the left side...they wouldn't trade him to you for any of the top 5 picks in 2013...

a 34 team though would be where the interest would come...the guy could play every down in a 34 pretty much if barkevious mingo can do the same for cleveland...

we need an OT more than a pass rusher AND the 22nd pick? Um, where do I sign up?

There will NOT be a trade. We simply have to bulk him up ,Coach him up and use him in the right way. We have to make him a Von Miller type weapon. If he's healthy and has put on 20 lbs of muscle he can help us in a big way. He seems like a great talent but maybe better suited as a linebacker in the NFL. If he's better at LB then play him there. Was it a mistake to bring him to a 43 defense? If Coyle is inventive at all we'll figure out a way to use him in some hybrid fashion. I like the kid and his potential but we should have been drafting offense in those first 3 or 4 picks. We could have got a starting Guard or Tackle if we just stayed put. I round 2 we could have got another starter for the o-line or a running back to replace Danial Thomas. We shouldn't have been drafting defense at the top of the draft and if we did we shouldn't have brought in injured players. I'm so glad a new GM is on the way!!!!!!!!!!

If tweedle dee and tweedle dum can each get 100 tackles plus, Jordan at linebacker would be putting up Vontaze Burfict numbers

I say no. He reminds too much of Jason Taylor. We can address other areas in fa and the draft. Dion Jordan is a special player.

Of course it's impossible that Dion Jordan is another Vernon Gholston or the like, in terms of his eventual success in the NFL.

Just remember, we pissed away picks to move up to draft Dion Jordan. Do you not take that into account in this trade?
