Disapointed with Hickey this offseason

I am disapointed with all the offseason moves besides our resignings of Starks & Grimes.

We signed an injury prone LT and FS, an over the hill CB at an overpriced contract, who was awful last year and a DT Earl Mitchell, again overpriced in a year where the draft is deep at DT.

I would have been far happier with Anthony Collins and resigning Clemons and Carroll, while drafting a DT in draft. Would have saved a ton of money and IMO been no worse off.

That and Finnigen are my only two disappointments.

If finnegans lost a step that was a bad contract...getting older at corner Is usually a bad thing too...I guess we will see...I would have kept Carroll for what he got any day but water under the bridge now...jamar Taylor better be ready

Should be obvious come preseason with finnegan

Nolan Carroll has been an ascending player. He's shown progress year after year. He's a capable no.2 corner. Carroll to my recollection only got beat it up real bad by Julio Jones last year(before he was injured), and that's about it. He only allowed a 48% completion rate last season. That's quite good.

Considering the money in which he was had at, we probably should've brought him back.

He may have had his personal best year last season but when Carroll makes a mistake, too often it's a big mistake. He's backup talent and that's what he'll be in Philly.

I think Coyle should get more than a bit of credit, Patterson blew before Coyle got his hands on him and when healthy looked great last season. Wilson improved (not saying much). Carroll was much improved (again, not saying much). If Coyle can get the rookies up to speed and help Finnegan rekindle what he once had we could have a hell of a secondary...with some nice depth for a change.

Don't mean to be a Debbie downer, but I am disapointed with all the offseason moves besides our resignings of Starks & Grimes.

I know I'll get shot down for this but I believe after initial frenzy of wanting everyone in FA, once the season kicks off many will be posting the same

I guess we could be wishing we had Ireland back.

I did not see him play last year but Being #109 with PFF, #108 with NFL, and #113 with CBS Sports says a lot. I did see him a few times in 2012, and he was not as good as in the past.

I thought we were after Thurmond and Brown. Thoughts on them?

clearly.. he ain't Caserio; they got Revis & Browner.. we got Grimes & Gumby.. thanks Steve

Realistically based on the new and evolving Pats hierarchy, Caserio had about as much to do with those signings as you did.

Like both those guys but I think they are off the table now...I think we are done at corner now anyways

I know Thurmond tok a 1 year $3.5M deal with the Giants after we signed Finnegen. Not sure on Brown.

That was about the most preposterous combination of drivel I have ever heard

Finnegen is the biggest maybe of them all and he'll likely be one of the signings that'll make or break Philbin/Hickey, so far anyway, we still have a good amount of cash to spend.

Not sure that Finnegan will make or break them. It was reported earlier this offseason that the coaching staff and front office are very high on Jamar Taylor coming into the 2014 season. So it is very possible that Taylor could have a much bigger role than Finnegan.

Even if Finnegan turns out to be a dud on the field, having a strong veteran presence like him in the locker room is really going to help young guys like Taylor and Davis. They will learn a lot from him.

I'm dissapointed only that the Patriots have gotten better and if we aren't able to play with them then we really haven't done much good for ourselves. I'm not going to kid myself into thinking Revis will not greatly upgrade their secondary and allow them to put together more blitz packages and help out that pass rush. I'm also not going to write Browner off to a failed PED test just yet. The Pats pretty much took Hartline and Wllace away with those moves unless we get really creative (which I sure as hell hope we do) and move them around and go up tempo to hopefully cause confusion. We need an answer for Gronk in case he's healthy and I'd rather see Dion Jordan getting after Brady. I would also love another middle of the field option because it's sure looking like that is where you'll need to make hay vs NE. A complete true TE would be great, this would push Clay into a mismatch role where I fell he is best suited. Long story short I'd like to sign an RT in free agency, even though this is looking unlikely, so we can draft a TE in the first round (assuming there is one worthy available at 19). I feel a complete TE to pair with Clay could push this offense over the top. I do understand it starts with blocking so if we can't get a starting caliber RT in FA I certainly would be OK with drafting one in round 1.

You win by improving and upgrading your talent level. I like Albert, Mitchell, and Smith, s-so on Delmas but, hate the Finnegen signing, and believed we could have added one more on the OL by going a little higher in money.

We cut one 30 year old CB with injury problems who has had 4 good games in 2 years to save $5.4M. Then, we sign a 30 year old CB with injury problems who has had 4 good games in 2 years (and was worse overall) t a 2 year $11M deal. Go figure.

We'll see. I'm not worried. We already have CB's we drafted last year, and everyone is reporting we are definitely drafting more.

What I would have liked is a veteran RB. But I've read that Hickey doesn't do that, and wants a young RB in the draft this year, probably in the 2nd round.
