Dolphins are finalizing a deal with former Jets S Ashtyn Davis.

Now the fear becomes Grier has forced a Saftey at 13. Ignoring IOL again, then watch Daniels get hurt again and we get our teeth kicked in against every decent DL.
We signed two safeties, either of which could become starters. One IOL who is likely to be a starter, so far, so how does that equate to safety being more likely than a tackle-to-guard convert at 13?
I don't know how you conclude Iffy and Ashtyn are combining to force the 13th pick to be a safety.
Feel free to fear that happening, but pardon me if I choose to pass on it.

That guy's acting like Holland has been in the league longer than Davis, when the opposite is true.

To be fair, two of Ashtyn's picks came off Huntley last year.

Glad to get him though. We share a home town.
The home of the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. :)
Davis has 8 picks in 1638 defensive snaps. That's excellent.
Holland has 5 in 3584 snaps.

I liked Davis coming out of college. I have no idea about what he's done over the past few years. It seems to be a well-received signing for the money he got.

Come on, It is like every player Miami signed is the best in the word. If Davis is starting at Saftey that is not good. Ya he has some picks, but gambles, QBs complete 70% on him and 9 tds as well. There is a reason he lost his starting job on the Jets. He is a depth Saftey, is want he is.

Melifonwu has show some skill, but as only 14 starts in 4 years. Only 1 healthy season out of 4 and only played in like half his career games.

Ya safety is a massive need still. And we still have like one legit CB only and question marks. I guess that secondary is all sunshines if we plan on dropping 40 per game on O.

Look at his yards per target and passer rating in his coverage over the last three seasons. Granted his first two seasons he struggled. Now, three in a row he's been very good.

Free agency has barely gotten started. Did you conclude that unless we made early splash signings at safety we were locked into drafting one at 13? Even if they don't sign any other safeties, there are plenty of options in the draft in the mid-rounds. Safety is a dime-a-dozen position. Unless a rare player like Reed or Polamalu is available, it is better to pick one in the 2nd through 4th. Holland and Moehrig were 2s. Reid was a 3, and Bynum was a 4, for example.

I like both safety signings, and not just because they are cheap.

Both are young, aggressive safeties... and yes, they are VERY cheap, which is exactly why you don't draft a safety early in the draft. Guys like this are almost always available.

Calm down it was half joking about locked in at 13 for safety. But it would be a Grier special to dig a hole at a position, then everyone knows you have a massive hole.

Grier is a massive failure at GM and hasn't earned an benefit of the doubt.

Every single word of your post could not possibly be more true.
