Dolphins Close to a Deal for (RB) Chris Carson

Jordan Howard never should have sucked.

Matt Breida should have been a steal for a 5th round pick.

I am still scratching my head that those two moves did not work out for us.
Agreed. I thought we’d have a better than average backfield w those guys. Is Breida still on the team?

100% agree but those kind of outcomes prove the point the entire pro football personnel biz

is an inexact science -- even when you're projecting proven pro talent onto your roster let alone

college kids who have never played a down in the NFL.
Remember Mario Williams came here? He never should have sucked either. Some guys just lose it and can’t get it back I guess (Howard).

Agreed. Neither were All-Pros of course but they had success before. Howard’s decline was very surprising. Breida had burst but never got enough carries IMO.

When I consider which round to draft a player I look at the franchise tag price for that position.

You have many here banging the table for us to draft a TE and a RB with our first round picks. Guess which positions have the lowest tag price? Yup, RB, TE, and special teams.

IMHO it would be very bad business to draft either in the first round. FWIW, behind QB it is DE/WR/CB/LB.

We certainly need DE/WR/LB and depending on Howard's demands for a new contract maybe a CB. If Howard was cut in 2022 dead cap would be 2.8M and 14.4M if he stays. I think Surtain at 18 makes more sense than Harris looking at the long term picture (not saying I would pick a CB but it isn't a bad move as both of ours are expensive).
Sure but there’s no chance Surtain will be there at 18 but there’s a very high probability that Najee will be there at 18. If we had 3 Deion Sanders I would still take Surtain at 18.

One ex GM analyst has Surtain has one of his sure fire non bust guys- along with only Lawrence, Sewell. Slater, Pitts, Collins and Harris. No WRs on his list.

That we wouldn’t draft a RB before 50? Is that because of our track record or what?
Yeah.

My take of our team view of running backs in general.

3, 18, 36, very likely too high for us.

50 is a maybe, for sure, especially if someone we love starts to free fall.

But, if we move down from #3 for more high picks, we might go monopoly money on either ETN or Najee (if we love them).
