Dolphins Combine Meetings

One thing the Saints always did when Brees was there was mitigate inside pass rush pressure by drafting guards/centers early and/or signing priority UFAs who could keep the pocket clean. Basically, they didn't cut corners on their 3 inside starters. I was always envious of those OLs. Tua has often been compared to a young Brees. Except for being left-handed and having a much nicer suntan. Oh yeah, and cooler ink work.
You know who else values Gaurds and Centers extremely high?

The Eagles and the Chiefs

One analyst view of Booker's testing results vs what he showed..

Booker said one thing he likes about football is it's like getting to commit legal assault. :chuckle:
Even though Booker is big and weighs a ton, I'm impressed by how he does not have Dunlap's disease like many of the heavier OLs seem to have. You know about Dunlap's disease, right?

It escapes me. I assume you do? 😂

I still vividly remember the Cowboys “reaching” for Travis Fredrick because no one had him on their 1st round radar. They were mocked by most media sites. He went on to start 16 games in 6 seasons before Guillain-Barré Syndrome cut his career short. He had two 2nd team all pro and one 1st all pro seasons before his medical diagnosis.

If you think a player is going to be elite at their position, pull the trigger. I don't care what position they play (outside of kicker/punter lol). If you have the chance to get someone special, F positional value. I don’t want us to draft Starks or Warren, but I can at least respect their game; if they are who we take I can respect it.

I wouldn't wish Guillain-Barré Syndrome
on my worst enemy, I came down with
Guillain-Barré Syndrome about 6 years
ago and haven't walked since.

I'm amazed he tried to make a comeback,
although unsuccessful, I had so much
pride for Travis knowing what he had
to endure on the road back.

It is absolutely incredible that he managed to play all 16 games the year after his diagnosis. I can’t even imagine a Dolphins OL staying healthy for every game in a season, let alone what he must have went through.

On a more serious note, I am sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like a very terrible medical diagnosis and I only read a small article about it.

I'm for trading back. I'd trade 13 for 17 or 18, a small trade back but one that would land us another top player. I think the difference between Warren and the rest of the TE will be evident in the coming years. I may be too high on Dart but your compass could be off too, it's possible. What Travis Kelsie or any other monster TE does on game day is very impactful. To me reaching and overdrafting are bull crap terms invented by Kiper and other draftnicks. There are no unimpactful positions. Look at how we've suffered trying to start Eich and Jones. They thought Guard wasn't very important, that and Tua's injuries sunk our season. I'm totally with you on our massive need for oline. Suddenly Guard is very impactful!! But we need to draft a QB somewhere, who do you like that we might be able to get? I'm assuming we sign a vet QB in FA. Didn't mean to fuel your nightmares!!

I get what your saying but tight end is still very much unimpactful especially what we’d need it for.

Pointing to Kelce who’s a primary target and a top 5 all time at the position doesn’t really change that as there’s about 0 chance Warren plays at a Kelce level anytime soon.

Bowers had the greatest season ever from a rookie tight end and they won 4 games.

What does Warren bring to this offense? He’s a great pass catcher but is he our first option? No that’s tyreek. Is he our second or third option? No that’s Waddle/Achane. Is he even our 4th option and best receiving tight end after Jonny just put up almost 900 yards and 8 tds? I’ don’t even know about that as that’s a pretty steep ask for a rookie tight end. That leaves him as a 4th or 5th option in that aspect of his game.

Yes I know he’s a great blocker and maybe he does short yardage stuff like at Penn state but taking a guy that’s a 4th or 5th option as a receiver and who’s primary impact is as a blocker is just insane to me.

If we were a team like the colts or chargers where he’d be probably their #1 target on top of blocking duties then sure great pick but in our offense I just don’t see it when his primary function can be found in the 6th/7th/ udfa range.

We have holes at two starting guards, 3 starting secondary positions, need another linebacker to pair with brooks, if armstead and Lamm both decide to retire we need a swing tackle, 2 of our 3 edge rushers are returning from injury so that might be the a need but in the event they are fine, we still badly need a NT or another DT next to Sieler. With all those holes not to mention this is one of the deepest tight end classes in history, there’s absolutely no justification I can see for taking him at 13.

Yup when they won the Super Bowl their inside line was 2 x pro bowl 1x all pro Carl Nicks, 1x pro bowl Jonathan Goodwin and 6x pro bowl, 4 x all pro Jabari Evans. To top it off their tackles were Stichcomb also made a pro bowl and Jermon Bushrod made 2 in his career. Entire line of pro bowlers and all pro’s.

Correct me if I am wrong.... Werent they both in the SB last year? Arent they 2 of the most successful NFL teams the last 5 years or so?

Why would we want to emulate those guys.

Chiefs are about to have the most expensive IOL in the league and we still have people saying spending resources on G is a waste lol

You see, this is why you get busts and steals in the drafts.

A guy like Booker was easily a top 20 pick 2 weeks ago. Now it's sounding like we may be able to get him at 48. He's getting destroyed. He will be a steal for any team that gets him in the 2nd round.

Then you get guys like Zabel. Few weeks ago was a 3rd round prospect. Now he's suddenly a fringe first rounder. I don't think he'll be a bust. I love him at , 48, but he'll be similar to Austin Jackson. Not a first round talent, but need for position will have some team drafting him earlier then he should be.

I'm sticking with my rankings pre combine that was based on actual game play and analysis from actual games. I'm not falling for guys falling because of their RAS score or surging due to the combine.

Look at Sweat from last year. Fringe 1st rounder who because he made a comment about not having issues with his playing weight, suddenly fell. Turned out, his pre combine ranking was accurate and he was a steal.

Yup tape doesn’t lie. Everyone says I hate on Jaxon Dart but everyone had him as a 4thish round guy while everyone was watching film, now all of a sudden he’s being talked about as potentially a top 10 guy or 1st round pick, a 2nd at worst. I just don’t get it. Did the tape suddenly change? Nope. Just people hyping up certain traits or abilities for no reason.

For a guy like Membou who people had around 15-20 to jump top 10 is fine but when you have guys jumping 2 full rounds.

It's because there are teams desperate for QBs and GMs (like Shoen) who desperately want an excuse to save their jobs.

Taking a rookie QB makes these GMs feel like it buys them a couple years bc they can use the "the rookie QB is still developing" excuse.

The Giants GM reportedly had the Stafford trade done, he had the money he wanted and the picks agreed upon with the Rams..... Stafford took less to stay in LA. Schoen probabaly cried that night 😆

If we stay at 13, I’d really focus on an impact football player regardless of position. The way you build your core is to stack impact talent. Positional depth will work itself out. If it’s Tyler Warren, so be it. Could be a LB, the corner from Michigan or an edge. Some impact guy is the way to build a core of blue chip football players for the future. This has been a problem for us for 20 years.
That really says it all.

Tend to agree. That being said I think a bulldozer in the middle of the dline would have a play in play out bigger impact than a lockdown corner.

I can scheme to a degree to avoid your corner in passing downs. Harder for me to take a nasty NT without doubling him. But please do as my edges and Seiler should feast more often. Look at what Philly did to KC with only 4 rushers.
Right on!
