Dolphins Combine Meetings

My favorite Round 1 target is a trade down and Derrick Harmon. I want to pick up an extra 3rd.

I also believe the difference between the caliber of DT Harmon and the best available DT at 48 will be greater than the caliber of OG we would get at 13 compared to 48.

Highly disagree. DT depth is maybe the strongest in the draft.

Waiting until 48 doesn’t guarantee anything great at guard. Our guards are likely coming out as tackles which means they’ll be teams that still view them as tackles leading to overdrafting them. Most of the natural guards aren’t scheme fits for an outside zone.

Not to mention DT isn’t a massive need. We had a top half defense with a ragtag team.

Maybe this changes if we sign atleast one guard but as of now can’t trade back and select a DT which is more of a luxury pick than a need.

I’m also not trading back and missing a true first round graded player to gain a 3rd. 2nd round pick or bust. Most teams will have around 12-15 first round grade guys this draft which means if we trade back a few slots we probably get a second tier guy with minimal gain.

I think that’s if you are looking for true tackles, but I love the tackle to guard converts in this draft and that should be right up Miami’s alley.
The 2024 draft produced 20-25 starters. I don't see that in this upcoming draft.

Depends on how the board falls, but outside of Campbell and Membou, no OL is worth a strong look at 13. Waiting on the Michigan DT's, but Harmon looks great at 13. A couple OG's and DT's look good at 48, too.

Of Campbell, Membou, and Harmon, I think Harmon is most likely to be there at 13. None should be, really.

Don’t really like Harmon, think he’s more of a 20-25 range target. If I’m going DT at 13 it’s Kenneth Grant.

Don’t view Banks as worthy of 13?

Do you believe, if we have playoff aspirations/expectations, that a rookie as QB2 is the way to go?

Doesn’t really matter either way but against wasting resources on a backup qb position.

Offense is too Tua oriented that I don’t think any backup or vet can step in and really make a difference especially with the state of the oline that if it’s not vastly improved an requires the qb to get it out sub 2.3 seconds we are done for if Tua goes down for more than 2-3 games.

Get what your saying but unless said vet comes near minimum I imagine most quality ones will be in the 5-8 million range which is probably around the same price a James Daniels or Will Hernandez might cost which can help Tua stay healthy by not having to play Superman and will also build a reliable run game.

Same goes for the draft, not spending a 3rd or 4th when you can maybe grab a starting safety or DT there

Yea Booker is a no for me at #13

Same. Still a good player, though. I'd consider Booker at 48.

If we don't fix the Oline, none of it really matters does it?

Exactly. We need to put the protecting Tua to rest. We know what he is and he needs to throw less to minimize mistakes.
Tua isn't mistake prone. Not sure where you're going with that.

In any case, regardless of who is the QB, if you don't protect him and have a decent rushing attack (both products of Oline play), we aren't going to field a team that can compete with the better NFL teams.

Yeah which is my point, if we can afford both great but with our cap situation and the amount of actual starting holes we have I’m seeing a tough time doing so. Maybe we get some charity from a young vet qb like maybe Mac Jones who wants to potentially save his career and hope Tua goes down and he can step into a spot on a potential contender and look good.
