Dolphins have 'expectation of mastery' for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

I think too much is put on Tua, He should be able to golf and drink as much as he can when he has time off. He shouldn’t have to put in more than what’s expected of him to be great.
It’s preposterous the Dolphins ask him that.

Yeah, LOL, because his window of opportunity is huge. Didn't Brady play until he was 45? Tua is only 27. Hell, he has lots of time. As for injuries, Tua rarely gets hurt. However, if he does, it's usually minor scratches and bruises. Nothing serious like concussions or hip injuries, where he would miss games or need the offense tailored to accommodate his lack of throwing strength.

Party on, Tua, and don't forget to hold out for the big, big bucks on your next extension.

...but you can make it through their answers to questions and they're smart enough to give answers that fit the question / context. That confidence and clarity builds charisma.

OTOH, Tua is more often just kind of weird. Beyond the stammering and lack of conviction, his answers to questions often just give away too much...things which really shouldn't be part of the public projection. We can all agree that he's too confessional.

I get what @Atila is saying. The guy is kind of hard to root for. Charisma is a thing and he's always been less charismatic and more honest...but that's not necessarily a good thing in terms of leadership.

Some people hide their distaste for Tua behind an infinite list of 'football' complaints but in reality he's just not that well-liked among a lot of fans who are really 50/50 on the guy. You can cite jersey sales all you want but I've never met a Dolphins fan in real life that liked anything about Tua beyond the passing efficiency. There's just no personality there and what is seems kind of goofy.
Have you listened to Lamar speak? Lol

I get that Tua comes off as “weird” to some. I think he’s just kind of shy. I’ve only heard good things about him though and in my experience people really like the guy.

Lamar is cool as hell. He exudes confidence you might not like the way he does it but he commands respect from his peers

See, these are the sort of insights and contributions that make me think, “Wow, maybe there really was something to the whole, ‘people going against positive narratives have a lot to offer’ line of thinking.”
Or... maybe some of us have realized there's no point to discuss things with you aquas because everything turns into personal attacks and insults. You don't listen to reason and deny everything that doesn't align with your fairytale's.

So we will wait until til the seasons end and when we are in the same boat or worse, we can maybe, hopefully have reasonable conversations then. Until then, enjoy your unrealistic expectations...

I'm sure you have experience in liking guys...

Well, he certainly has some elite processing time and other attributes… but like actual general intelligence, like when he speaks… he seems dumb. I’m not sure how much that effects him as a QB but I do imagine it does come into play as a leader.
He is dumb. He got a 13 on his Wonderlic, and then took it again and still only got a 19. Justin Herbert in comparison for example got a 39.

If you are going to score that low on the Wonderlic, you better have God given insane talents like Lamar Jackson or Dan Marino. You can't be dumb AND physically gifted lacking.

So when people want Tua to call plays/audible at the line more. I think there's very good reasons why he hasn't under both McDaniel AND Flores. Two systems BTW that were built from the ground up SPECIFICALLY for Tua.

I definitely think being a leader isn’t the best position for Tua. I do wish he’d get better, but a person’s play can also be a leadership style. I’ve got to think that after all he’s been though, and is still able to play like he is, creates respect from other players.

To your last point, general respect is kind of it's own thing, distinct from leadership. Respect can be earned without enhancing leadership for all sorts of reasons relating to a person just being decent. You can be liked for being kind, polite, etc.

You can respect someone for their charity work for instance. I don't think that necessarily enhances their leadership because leadership comes down to one's ability to assert authority and influence.

Does Tua control the environments he finds himself in? Does his influence command the attention & submission of other people? It's an awkward question because we don't really know, at least we're not confident Tua has that presence / impact on his peers.

To your earlier point, I agree...leadership in its practical aspect relates to whether or not people (1) defer/submit to you and (2) want to follow you because they also have a natural faith in your authority.

The injuries and the lack of mobility are to a point with Tua where I think some players may legitimately think he simply lacks the juice to compete on the NFL's biggest stage. So again, being respected doesn't equate to inspiring others in your authority. That could be a limitation of Tua's for sure.

At least on paper, this is the most offensive talent Tua has had to work with. It took awhile to get in the same page with Smith, but that was likely due to Tua's injury early in the season.

Add Westbrook-Ikine to the receiving room, Gordon at running back, Daniels and Savaiinaea at guard and Tua should have a big year.

I agree with those of us saying Tua should have more freedom to audible.

Agree, but IIRC, T made a statement in the off-season he was frustrated getting to the LOS, wanting to change plays, but no time on the clock. Also limits moving people around or changing blocking scheme. I'd like to see a game with the O getting to the LOS with 15 secs on the clock and see what TT can do

Imo I don’t see the influx of talent you speaking of

The line is better by subtraction sure but Westbrook and Gordon don’t move the needle that much

I’m relying on better years from our already established skill players

Hill, waddle, Jonuu, Achane, wright

I do expect more from
Malik..

We really had no production from 3-6 in the receiver room last year

Part of that is no time to go through progressions (and Mcd not recognizing that and adjusting)

Tua is heading into year #6.

Anyone still deciding what they think of him is doing the same thing people did with Tannehill. Well, I got news for you, he is who he is and there's plenty of data to show what that means (both good and bad).

I liked Tannehill early on but you could see the limitation by years 3-4. There wasn't development after that because he'd had plenty of snaps prior. I spent years 5-7 pleading that we move on because it was obvious he wasn't going to be special.

You could see the upside in Tua by years 2-3 and you could see the limitation as well. He's now entering year #4 in just this offense alone, so yeah, he'd better be "mastering" it, whatever that means.

Is he going to look any different? That's exceedingly unlikely. This is just another year for someone who is now an established veteran with a long track record and thousands of snaps in the NFL.

He's our transition QB through '25 and probably '26, mostly because of his injury issues. Unless he suddenly stops getting injured or the Dolphins plow through the elite opponents on their schedule, they're definitely going to be exploring other options come '26 and '27...that's pretty much inevitable at this point.

Debating the QB's potential when the guy is a veteran is just stupid. Let's not make that same mistake. We did it with Tannehill and it made us look silly.

McDaniel and/or Tua taking the next step or not? Is the culture going to change or not? It is what it is. I am going to try and chill and wait to see what happens when the season starts.
