Dolphins Nuggets

You sit a guy like Phillips half a year and he's gone. He's a competitor, that's why he came back to football after the concussions made him "retire". You don't let him play, he'll go somewhere that will. Period. I say let him play, he's the one big difference maker we have on D. He makes everybody better just with his presence. This team needs leaders, Phillips is a big one.

I don't understand that logic...the 2nd half of the season being more important. A win in week 1 counts just as much as a win in week 18 (given same level of opponent)...if you got into the playoffs because of having 1 more win than the next guy, that week 1 win looks pretty crucial, if further removed from memory.
Exactly, we missed the playoffs by one game last year. Every game is important and must be treated that way. It would be nice to have a substantial lead in the win column (not with Barfalo in our division) to rest starters late in the year.

If we are in playoff contention heading into the Jets game at MetLife on 12/7 then I’d be ok playing Phillips, but on a limited snap count.

If we are out of contention no way. Even on a limited basis I’d be holding my breath on every play he’s in, I’d just be watching his get off and praying for the best.

Do you mean "Meth Life"? LOL

I think I’d be open to him sitting out certain games like any game at MetLife because of the risk of reinjury with that god awful turf…so I would sit him out situationally.
I’m pretty sure that MetLife changed out their turf a season or two ago. It now has the same type of turf as the Lions, Patriots, Seahawks, and Falcons.

Connor Orrs yearly article on 100 bold predictions, Dolphins/AFC east mentions.

23. The Arizona Cardinals (8.5), Miami Dolphins (8.5) and Washington Commanders (9.5) will fail to surpass their Vegas-projected win totals.

64. Chop Robinson will have a double-digit sack season

The 2024 first-round pick finished with six sacks a year ago but flashed some incredible playmaking ability for the Dolphins. With the addition of space eater Kenneth Grant on the defensive line and the return of Bradley Chubb, Robinson will get to rush the quarterback more frequently without a premier blocker in his path.

24. The Dallas Cowboys (7.5), New York Jets (5.5), Seattle Seahawks (8.5) and Las Vegas Raiders (6.5) will all surpass their Vegas-projected win totals.

10. Mike Vrabel will win Coach of the Year (and …)

The Patriots will nearly sneak into the playoffs as a seven-seed but miss the postseason. While the AFC, particularly in the West, feels ruthless at the moment, there is still an opening for a grimy and competitive Patriots team to finish second in the East behind Buffalo. I make this prediction in full awareness of what was likely the worst prediction I’ve ever made, also in this space, when I projected a God-awful Patriots team to win the AFC East in 2023.

And his top 2, really hope he’s off on these cause buck Fuffalo.

1. The Buffalo Bills will defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LX

Predicting the Eagles will return to the big game is a begrudging move on my part, but it’s a recognition that nearly all of the NFC front-runners have brutal schedules. Philadelphia is the one team that can handle the rigors of such a slate and win ugly consistently enough to make the dance. Meanwhile, the Bills have an amenable schedule that includes the Browns, Falcons, Panthers and Saints, as well as multiple cracks at the bottom rung of the AFC East. This slate will keep Josh Allen healthy and in berserker mode for the playoffs when Buffalo needs him most.

2. Josh Allen will win Super Bowl LX MVP

By virtue of the Bills being in the game, and by virtue of the fact that the quarterback always gets the award (justice for Josh Sweat!), Allen will be your Super Bowl LX MVP in a meat grinder of a game against the Eagles in Santa Clara. Khalil Shakir will lead Buffalo in receiving with 112 yards and catch the game-winning touchdown, prompting general manager Brandon Beane to yell YOU LIKE THAT in the postgame locker room.

After the Phillips injury or before ?

Edit: looked it up it was before the 2023 season…so there were still a bunch of injuries including Phillips the past couple years even with the new turf.

SI mailbag question:

From Jason Costa (@JasonCosta157): What’s a realistic return for the Dolphins for Ramsey, or anybody giving up a player to plug into the starting lineup?

Jason, I think it’s sort of a sliding scale on how much of the money Miami is willing to pick up. Right now, he’s set to make $24 million this year, with a $4 million roster bonus already paid. He’s under contract for another three years at $21 million, $21.7 million and $24 million, respectively. So while a team trading for him is getting a fair amount of control, it’s not exactly at the most affordable price.

Ramsey is still a good player, and many folks believe he can transition to becoming a top-notch safety when age catches up to him as a corner. And if that’s how you’re projecting him, maybe he’s worth $12 million or $15 million per year rather than $21 million per year. This is to say that if you take his contract as is, it’s at least in part a salary dump, $21.1 million this year, and then at least a consideration that he gets cut after this year because of his $21 million number for next year.

On those terms, maybe it’s a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

But if you can knock the number down a bit, and Miami eats, say, another $10 million, then you’re at $10.1 million for this year, and $30.1 million over the next two, with the potential to renegotiate the later years, perhaps in exchange for getting more of that $30.1 million in his pocket quicker. In that scenario, he might be worth a Day 2 pick.

Those are just ballpark ideas from me, not any sort of “report.” But I do think it illustrates how the return for Ramsey will be depend on the money he’s set to make.

CBS sports most important players for this year, not ranked in order.

62. The Dolphins seem to be in a very precarious position, and Tua Tagovailoa and the word "precarious" go hand-in-hand. Miami was 6-5 when he played in 2024 and 2-4 without him, and while his numbers were down across the board, Tagovailoa is what makes this offense go.

63. and 64. We'll be keeping close eyes onTyreek Hill and Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey is on his way out, with a bevy of suitors emerging. Hill remains an electric talent, but his contract, injuries and legal issues are considerable. If things start to go south, could he be traded, too?

And their prediction for the year, they may finish ahead of us but easily ? Come on now I think that’s not fair to us, but we shall see

91. The Patriots easily overtake the Dolphins and Jets to finish second in the AFC East, behind only the Bills, parlaying a leap from Drake Maye, plus added physicality from Mike Vrabel's defense, into wild-card contention.

I’d prefer the opposite, giving him a better chance to play in the more important games.

Would you bet on him making it through a full season? Cause if you would, I’ll take that action. Even odds.
Don't gamble. Gambling is bad!

I wonder if the other teams with the same turf have the same issues?

It’s probably not the turf in New Jersey, but rather their stinking team and fans injuring players. God I hate the Yets.

Pointless argument, right? They are not sitting him. People please stop. Anyone can get hurt. He sits ten games and can get hurt in game 11.

I’m not seeing how the Pats finish with a winning season. I realize that the media types need a story to cling to, but will Vrabel actually be playing on defense? Drake Maye sucks.

The Patriots will be 3rd in the AFCE. And finish with a 7-10 record.
