Edds is a Patriot

THIS IS NOT A KNOCK OR SARCASM IN ANYWAY, I AM BEING SERIOUS.

This question has been posed since his release, but im just going to ask it again to see if anyone answers this time. This is in response to the stat monsters that are blind to everything but the aforementioned. If anyone has maybe collected snaps from this kid, hopefully you could answer this for me.

How many of Edds tackles were made after his assignment had already caught the ball?

Considering he was hailed as Zach Thomas V2.0, thats not exaggeration its fact, his name was actually thrown around with the all time Dolphin great. His "natural coverage" skills should've allowed him to blanket 2nd, 3rd or 4th string TE's/ HB's without a hitch. Since I didnt pay too much attention to him, I havent the slightest idea how he did. I just want to try and understand why he is such a commodity already.

I have a question for you.

WHO exactly was anointing Edds Zach 2.0?

They got us back for taking their TE prospect. Someone over there must've gotten really PO'ed. Now they download info on our defense.

I would have liked him to stay in Miami but the FO had different ideas. IMHO he hadn't really gotten a shot other than a few pre-season games in which he seemed to play pretty well.
They saw something in practice or pre-season and clearly didn't want him. If he sticks in New England and gets solid playing time... while it sucks because I hate the Pats... I say good for him. He deserves a shot.

You have exactly 1 linebacker that could even think about winning a job against the current Miami Linebacking crew.

Mayo is just as good a player as Dansby and Burnett was a nobody until last season and Cunningham and Misi are similar players. When did not being able to start on the Dolphins' mean you suck?

I hate this kind of talk. Did you see the last game of the season last year? We didn't even score a point against them until less than three minutes left in the game. I'm glad that the offensive coaches of Miami will show more respect for their "D" than you do.

The Pats D gave up 24 or more points 8 times last year, compared to our 5. This wasn't a Dolphins, Pats D comparison. I made my comment based on the point that CK made the insinuated that the Pats were so deep and talented on D that they could take a flyer on a young developing, recovering player while the Fins couldn't waste a spot on that type of player at this point. All comparisons aside, at this point I would take the Dolphins D way before the Pat's.

The talking heads as SOON as we picked him on draft day. Got to talking about him being a "coverage guy" and ZT was brought into the discussion not long after.

hahahaha WTF?

Zach Thomas couldn't cover my grandma.

That's fair. I would say we have a better overall defense than New England as well. I hate 'em too but I think you have to respect their strengths as well as recognize their weaknesses in order to beat them.

Great link. Sounds like quite the guy - next Bruschi, probably. I wonder about his speed after an ACL.

Got this from a Pats board. LOL, next Bruschi, that's a good one.

Jerod Mayo isn't even the best ILB on his team, much less talking about any of the other teams in the division besides the Bills. He's great at making tackles down the field.

Zach Thomas was really good in coverage. He wasn't a great man coverage guy with someone significantly faster than him, but when you've got his kind of instincts zone coverage is kind of a big deal.

Mayo is a top 5 ILB in the NFL. Its not even debatable, I get the fact you have to hate the Patriots...but at the expense of looking like you've never watched the game before?

Yes, ok then. I've never watched the game before. Sorry, you caught me.

Meantime, Jerod Mayo is 26th on the list of Pro Football Focus' ILB/MLB rankings vs. the run, and he's the prime run-stopper on a team with below-average YPC against it despite the fact he's playing in probably the best situation for any run stuffer to excel in a 2-gap defense with Vince Wilfork in front of him. Not to mention the guy gave up more yards in coverage than any linebacker in the league besides the prestigious Paris Lenon.

Yah keep telling yourselfs cutting Edds is not big deal, he was washed up, etc. al. In the next three years if Edds is playing against us twice a year you keep saying that some more.
