LOL at some of the same people that complain about giving Finnegan guaranteed money yet cry when our first round draft pick is forced to sign a contract with offset language.
Out of curiosity what are thoughts on the Peppers to GB deal? 3/$30/$7.5 Guaranteed
Peppers had a bad year with the Bears and no one squaks about how that is not a bad deal.

So we basically took Patterson's money and gave it to Finnegan.![]()
We get Finnegan and Delmas. Two players who are injury prone. Greaat!
I don't get this logic...sure it's not our money but we sit through pitiful season after pitiful season. If there's better options out there and we paid more for a lesser option I think it's a pretty worthy conversation point.

And the Broncos risked the entire franchise for a guy coming of 6 neck surgeries. :idk:
What Patterson was healthy?
Don't forget, a guy has to be willing to come. It's only a "better option" if the player is interested. There will be corner options in other years. Finnigan, if healthy, should be very competant and add a nastiness to the defense that it has lacked. He can play the slot, he can help guys like Taylor along. I'll take his long term track record - with the assumption that his nagging injuries are behind him - over committing longer term to other "options" or some of the lesser experienced players that were out there. Don't rely too much on PFF. To be fair, look at their ratings of other positions and you'll see some peculiarities there too. Take a look at Clabo's rating after 2012. So much of football is how you use your players and using their strengths in addition to having a healthy body out there.
Cortland Finnegan and Louis Delmas can play in the league for over 200 years and not have any production Peyton has. Analogy does not work at all here.

There were a ton of other corners to pursue. I didn't mention Patterson once.
It isn't like the Dolphins are strapped for cap space and even after this move still have one of the largest amounts available. A $4.5 million cap hit for a starting cornerback is not absurd.
Yeah he struggled the past couple of year(injuries hurt him big time last season) and maybe he turns out to be over the hill and doesn't work out. We can cut our losses after 2014 and move on. We paid Patterson more last season and he only played 6 games. This move imo is more about adding more of a veteran presence to this team and some leadership. His value might be felt more when it comes to setting an example and helping out the young guys like Taylor and Davis. Ultimately we want Taylor to become the starter opposite of Grimes, maybe that happens this year or next year.
Don't really mind taking a chance on Finnegan. If it works out, it could pay off big time. Some times in this league you have to take risks.
Like I said earlier, I think the reason I am not overally worked up about this signing/contract is because I don't think our secondary is going to live or die based on Finnegan's on field play. I think he is more valuable as a teacher and leader for the younger guys and I have faith that Taylor is going to take a big step in his development. I think that is why you go for someone like him over a big money young guy, no need if Taylor is what we hope he is. Plus I think Will Davis is the wildcard in all of this. For a one year commitment I think it is worth the risk, plus if he recaptures his old self it is a home run signing and the salary doesn't matter at all.
People had the same concerns and doubt with Grimes last year and it couldn't have worked out any better for the Dolphins.
Exactly. That's what's missing in all of this. We don't know what the internal conversations were regarding the type of corner they were looking for. We may all hear names like DRC and Browner, etc., floating around, but who's to say that our coaches like these players as a schematic fit for what they want to do next year?
I for one notice a resounding theme in the DBs we decided to pick up. Scrappy, nasty, hard nosed, touch, head hunting, vocal leaders. I for one didn't see a single player like that on our entire defense last year. Don't overlook the importance of a good lightning rod to push fire into somewhat flat defense. Wake, Ellerbe, Rashad Jones, Grimes, these are all fairly quiet, lead by example kind of players. There's tons of talent on this defense, but inject some fire into these boys and they can be elite.
Then sign him as a coach.....
