Finally, Cortland Finnegan's contract numbers

LOL Dolphins are paying Finnegan and Mat Moore this year what the pats are paying for Revis... Let that sink in. :(

Zero chance Revis would have come to us for that price. ... apples to oranges.

IF Finnegen were coming off a one year injury after a VG year, I would be feeling a whole lot better on this deal but, that is not the case, as he has been bad for 2 years.

Why does everyone keep saying he had two bad years? In 2012 (first year in St. Louis) the man had 100+ tackels, 9 PDs, 3 ints, 1 FF, 1 Def TD. If that's a poor season, give me poverty every year. He was injured most of 2013. The dude is consistent, I don't care what PFF and their subjective calculations say.

How is it that simple? They have players who have Manning's salary too, that doesn't mean he'd be a Dolphin. Revis has to also want to play in Miami.

In 2012, he had 4 of 5 good games to start the season, and has not had a good one since. PFF had him at #86 but, you have a problem with them. NFL had him at #70, do you have a problem with them as well?

How many games of his did you watch him closely 2 years ago? This way I can get a fair opinion of you vs them.

Same in the sense they are former Pro Bowl players coming off a season in which they were hurt, and questions if they still can be impact players going forward. Though Finnegan got a two year deal, it is really just a one year prove it type contract like Grimes got.

Do I expect the same results as we got with Grimes? No. Not sure it is realisitc to expect Finnegan to become one of the top corners in the league and put together a Pro Bowl type season.
Finnegan is 6 years removed from his 1 pro bowl year. Grimes was 2 when he signed. Grimes was playing at a high level prior to his injury. Fine fan wasn't. Stop with the comparisons

I think its pretty obvious they want the opposing receivers to hear footsteps next season, and TBH Im intrigued by the strategy. The NFL is becoming a heavy passing league with spread formations and multiples WRs on the majority of downs. At some point it becomes difficult to have capable DBs on the field as you have to continuously put 5-6 of them all game long. With the Pats dink donking the middle of the field for short but constant low risk gains, lets punish em, make them pay for those. As the game goes on, opposing WRs become hesitant and start to play timid.... Of course there are downsides, we`ll get our share of personal fouls and big tackle attempts that whiff and result in a big play for the other team and its not like Jones, Delmas and Finnegan are all world cover guys, but they all have one thing in common... They can, will and are looking to NAIL you... Will it work? I have no idea, but its out of the box thinking, and coupled with a good pass rush(hopefully) that limits they re amount of vulnerability, will make other teams O players hate to play us win or lose...

If your CB has 100 tackles somebody is catching a lot of passes in his area.....stats only show some of the story, I didn't see him play last yr or the yr before so I can't say how poor he played

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie just spurned the Jets to sign with the Giants. I bet Rex would love if Finnegan was still on the market.

Doubt that somehow there were better corners went off the market yesterday that were a bigger loss

Finnegan could work out well but its a long shot he was really bad last year worryingly so

Wow... that's about 5x what he is worth. Hickey got killed in those negotiations.

Maybe we bought a time machine, and signed the 2008 version of Finnegan...

You are correct. Finnegan had a disappointing 2013 when he got injured and missed games, but all this talk about a bad 2012 is flat out wrong and he was in excellent form in 2011. We should know in Training Camp if Finnegan has something to offer or not. Put him on Wallace and let's see if his legs are too old.
Hickey is taking a pretty bold bet that Finnegan can be good. In comparison, Walter Thurmond was available for the slot for less money and a Super Bowl in his back pocket. A risk averse brand new GM would have just signed Thurmond. Hickey is backing his judgement that Finnegan still has something.

i wish it was that simple...take that back...it should be that simple...if we could just cut him then and walk away with no financial loss etc...but we didn't go about it that way...sure looks to me like we are stuck with finnegan come hell or high water in 2014...lock that in your 53 for good or bad

gms don't like to admit it if/when they screw up...we've seen plenty of evidence of that around here
