Finheaven Test Run: ESPN NFL (Mock) Draft Official Thread

Adrian Peterson is likely to shatter the rushing record (if he stays all 4 years) and will be the BPA most likely. He will not go #1, just like Ricky didn't.

Look at Philly... Ricky is the BPA, yet they go with a QB who's very close to the top of the board (getting all the VALUE out of their pick) and were in the SB.

exactly QBs are reaches, they are not the BPA... rodgers is far from it and a reach at number 2... if saban is gonna stick to taking the best player available it wouldnt be rodgers and it wouldn't be a bad tihng if he took a RB... who give a **** about the contract, take the best players!!!!

11. Cowboys
CowboysDemarcus Ware, LB/DE, Troy St.
John Clayton, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: Early word out of Dallas is they favor Ware over Shawne Merriman as a potential linebacker in their switch to a 3-4 defense. Bill Parcells has been waiting to get a playmaker for the defense. Ware can be a 4-3 defensive end, but he can be an impact rush linebacker, too.

Hey if by some miracle Washington was able to move up to our pick I like this Mock, because we get Ronnie Brown at #9...... But other than that this is complete CRAP!

12. Chargers (from Giants)
ChargersShawne Merriman, LB/DE, Maryland
John Clayton, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: The Charger will need all 15 minute to sort out this debate. They need a pass-rusher. Merriman can do that from a linebacker set in their 3-4. That is great value and it fills a need. The problem is wide receiver Troy Williamson is also available. Merriman should win but it will be a close call.

I have Brown going #14 to Carolina. H'es not the best RB in the draft, Benson is w/Cadillac not far behind him. Brown is a straight ahead runner who can catch well.

13. Texans
TexansRonnie Brown, RB, Auburn
John Clayton, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: This is the third team looking to add pass rush to their 3-4, but offense will be there. While wide receiver Troy Williamson would be the natural choice, the Texans can't pass on halfback Ronnie Brown, who is a steal at this point. They have been thinking about signing veteran Anthony Thomas. By being patient, they may have landed the best back in the draft.

Moderator: The Panthers are up next (with Len Pasquarelli on the clock), but first why don't we take a Ronnie Brown question from Rob in Cleveland ... How can the Dolphins pass on Ronnie Brown. Not only is he a stud, but he's also a character guy who can contribute right away. I can see then trading down, but taking a QB, no way.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: Well, it's a little awkward for me having to answer a question about a pick that my partner, John Clayton, made. But he's got some other responsibilties right now, so I guess I'll try. Uh, on second thought, no, I won't. I don't know why The Professor put Rodgers in the second slot. Maybe, as is usually the case, he knows something I don't. Look, everyone knows the Dolphins desperately want out of this pick but, if they're forced to make a choice, well, they'll have to make it. I would have taken Ronnie Brown or Braylon Edwards. But, hey, that's why it's called a "mock(ery)" draft. Anyone who takes it too seriously is crazy.

Brown can't catch well?????????????????

You are talking about Ronnie Brown, the RB from Auburn that lined up as a RECEIVER A LOT in their offense, right?

14. Panthers Alex Barron, OT, Florida State
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: Just too good to pass on at this point. The Panthers have moved Jordan Gross back to right tackle and planned to play former guard Travelle Wharton at left tackle. But being able to put a potential left tackle stud like Barron next to newly acquired standout guard Mike Wahle is a real coup for a line that was troubled in 2004.

I said CAN. WTF are babbling about?

Feeley make the minimum next year

Hostile7 said:
Who said that? Feeley should have every chance to succeed. He's due 5 million dollars next year and we're not paying him that regardless (unless he has a 30+ TD season). We have a 20 year old learning behind him.

AJ is making the minimum next year. He has already been paid his 3 million dollar signing bonus.

Per Alex Marvez Q&A:

Q: If the Dolphins draft a quarterback with their top pick, wouldn't A.J. Feeley be forced to take a paycut? Also, if the Dolphins take Alex Smith or Aaron Rodgers, would Nick Saban play them immediately -- or let them sit for a year?

A: Feeley is slated to earn the NFL-minimum salary of $540,000 in 2005, so a pay cut isn't feasible. It's unknown whether the Dolphins would give Smith or Rodgers a year to develop a la what Cincinnati did with Carson Palmer in Cincinnati or whether they would look to play a rookie quarterback immediately a la what Indianapolis did with Peyton Manning. My feeling is Saban would lean toward initially playing a veteran unless Smith or Rodgers proves they are ready to start.

im with len on that rodgers pick... first i heard about us taking rodgers was from clayton on sportscenter yesterday saying how if the niners took smith wed really look at grabbing him, but hes the only one who seems to think this...

15. Chiefs
ChiefsMarcus Spears, DE, LSU
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: Lots of ways the Chiefs can go to upgrade a porous defense. Spears is the most complete of the end candidates. Other possibilities include end Erasmus James and safety Thomas Davis. In fact, passing on Davis would be a tough swallow for them.

16. Saints
Saints Thomas Davis, S, Georgia
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: Sure, the Saints just added free safety Dwight Jones and re-signed incumbent strong safety Jay Bellamy. No big deal, since coach Jim Haslett is one of the guys who feels Davis is a more natural linebacker and will play him there. It would certainly address one of the Saints' longtime need areas.
