Fins sign QB Z Wilson

I’m good with this. Zach’s issue has always been his head (and the Yets who destroy all QB’s) and not his talent. He’s talented.

If McD and the other coaches can get to him, this will be a steal. I’m a Tua fan, but as many here have mentioned, his injury history scares me. I think Tua makes dumb decisions with his body and will do it again in the future.

Lol, I love how butthurt that phinsforwhothef*ckcares is getting about this. Kind of makes it worth it.

That is perfectly reasonable money for a backup QB
There are a lot of backups with more experience, that are also better system fits, that would have been better positioned to help us this year if Tua gets hurt. And money isn't the issue either. Those guys are cheaper than Wilson. Andy Dalton just got only 2 years and $8mm from Carolina, for example. Zach Wilson is not a backup. He is a flier on a potential Tua replacement in a few years. If they were concerned about winning games if/when Tua gets hurt, they would have signed a different backup QB. It is almost impossible to argue that Zach Wilson was the best backup QB available if the concern was winning games this year, if Tua gets hurt.

Getting upset over missing out on Andy Dalton is crazy, lmao

I argue he makes sense
"If" Tua gets hurt it continues the pattern he will always be hurt
No getting around that
Add in fact he may have become an ineffective QB regarding big plays as seen last season
They were taken away from him last season and there was no answer to it
If you remove big plays from Tua what do you have? A smallish, nonathletic, weaker armed QB that is unreliable for any given season?
If that happens do we try again with it the following season?
We now have a high 1st round talent with mobility, athleticism and a powerful arm that has size
"If" Tua gets hurt again or is ineffective we give Zac his chance
If he sucks he's gone in one season and we draft someone
If he kills it we sign him
To me it beats a journeyman coming in when our playoff chances are very slim to begin with

yes your last sentence is part of my point. the dolphins know they dont have much of a shot this year. zach wilson is about the future, not about the now

Winston is just too streaky. Very Fitzpatricky player. Either going to have him blow up the scoreboard or throw 5 picks.

He also is going to cost a lot more money.
Totally. I was most attracted to the energy that he would bring on and off the field. It can be quite infectious for the team and coaches... ahhh and I had this vision of McD centering and refining his game. Idealistic sure, but I've changed my mind and I'm more grateful for deal with Zach. Cap friendly indeed.. just wish we could have signed him for 2 years!

yes. but the dolphins are not any team, with any QB. tua has obvious injury issues. it is highly probable he is hurt again this year. all we kept hearing about last year was we needed a backup QB that can win us games in that situation. it is very hard to argue that zach wilson right now (not two years in the future zach wilson) is the backup that is most well positioned to win us games now. he currently does not have the skill set, and he doesnt even look to be a system fit. therefore, the dolphins signed a QB for the future, as opposed to being able to win games now. therefore, it seems to me they do not think highly of their chances next year anyway, and said WTF we may as well roll the dice on a future QB.
So, they signed their QB of the future to..........a one year contract on the cheap where he will be a free agent again next offseason and where if he knocks it out of the park ala Sam Darnold with Minnesota, will command big time $$$ on the open market. They did this instead of locking him down on the cheap to a 3 or 4 year contract.

And they would do this in a year when it is fairly apparent that if they don't make the playoffs (and perhaps win a playoff game), the GM and HC will be fired. Sorry, just doesn't make sense to me, but then again, maybe Ross has told Grier he will be back in '26 no matter what and the management team does things purposely to drive the fans crazy.

Uh, I don't think anyone is signing Zach Wilson to a long-term deal.

He's in prove-you-belong-in-the-NFL territory. A 1-year deal is what his talent gets him. His work ethic, attitude, practice habits and potential on-field contributions will be the thing that gets him extended as a back-up.
