Fire Saban!

Wanny is that you? How could you even post a thread saying to fire Saban. In the short months that he has been here he has done more good then wanny did in the 5 years he was here. He brought in a new attitude and top coaches to the fins. Fa's actually want to play here. Saban will turn this team around to a winner, make no mistake about that.
 
Spielman was fired for many reasons:

He traded a second round pick for a player we could have gotten for much less. Even if AJ turns into an all-pro, we still got taken. It's all about value. AJ wasn't worth a second rounder. We gambled on potential and paid too high a price.

We traded a 4th round pick to move up one spot to take a player who never really saw the field. They bluffed and we bit. We should have been stronger in how we dealt with them. We weren't willing to take anyone but Carey and we got exposed as chokers. Spielman gave up a 4th rounder to take a player who would have been available 1 pick later.

Attempting to draft for need, rather than taking the best player available, screwed us over royally. Carey didn't help our offensive line last year, so why did we draft for need? If you draft for need, you have to be able to use the player immediately! That'd be like saying you need a car, buying a car, and never driving it! STUPID!

I have no problems with the Ogun trade. We needed to move him, we needed a reciever, and we needed a running back. My problem wasn't that we got both a reciever and a running back (eventually), but which running back we got. We should have found a way to squeeze a better player out of that pick, or just kept the pick. No offense to Gordon, who I like, but he's a backup and best suited for that role.

I had no problems with the David Boston trade. It was a worthwhile risk.

Spielman deserved to be fired. He was unwilling to take the best available player, drafted a player for need who wasn't ready to fill a need, gave up way to much for a below average QB, and gave up way too much for a career backup running back. He screwed up and got what he deserved.

As for Saban, he's stuck to his principles. History will judge his moves, but so far he's looked good. He hasn't made the same stupid mistakes that Spielman has made, and that's all you can ask for...

The Surtain trade is a brilliant move considering we had ZERO leverage. The O-Gun trade blows on all levels cause we had leverage, lost it, and had to take the only offer left on the table.

We didn't exactly have all the leverae in the world with Ogun either. You say we either had to take the 2nd rounder for Surtain or get nothing, well it was the same situation with Ogun, he was holding out, and wasn't going to play unless we payed him top money, so we bassically either took that trade or got nothing for him as well, and a Pro Bowl WR, and a 3rd isn't bad for a guy that really only had one good season and who many felt that his numbers were inflatedbecause of playing on the other side of Jason Taylor

He brought in Gus Frerotte a has been or never was, He brought in a never was for the Oline, He picked Crowder in the third round that had first round talent ( why didnt we wait till the fourth like we did with Will Poole ), He drafted a running back yet our team was bloated with talent at RB plus Ricky is returning, and Saban got robbed in the Surtain Trade!

OK firing Saban was just a joke but if the dolphins flop this year how bad was RS really? What happens if Feeley performs quite well? What happens if Gordon becomes a premier back or even a decent back. What happens if Will Poole anchors our CB spot as a top corner for the next 5 years. What happens if Carrey turns out to be a great Olineman.

Yes I know there are alot of what ifs but Saban has nothing to show for himself either. Saban is the perfect example of what if right now! All of Sabans moves are what ifs right now! What if Brown gets hurt in preseason and sits out the year, what if bringing back Ricky destroys the teams morale, What if all of our FA signings get hurt or just plain dont perform well! Will we see fire Saban threads next year?

I know many people hated Wanny. I think that the fact Speilman was around Wanny is enough for most fans to want him gone. Personally I will wait a few years before calling the guy an idiot or moron. I will wait a few years before I praise Saban too!

As for the pickups Spielman made I will give them 2 to 3 years to prove themselves. Same goes for Sabans draft and FA pickups and trades!

P.S. I heard a person say trading Ogun for a third and Booker was a reason RS should be fired! Totally moronic. We got less, a lot less for Surtain.

dude, of course he has nothing to show, they haven't played yet. Speilman made horrible moves, the Pats got Corey Dillon for their 2nd, cheifs got surtain for their 2nd, and we got AJ, for ours, tell me if that is a bust.
 
Under Spielman's watch, the Dolphins acquired only one player who made the Pro Bowl. That was running back Ricky Williams, whom the Dolphins acquired from New Orleans in exchange for two first-round picks in 2002.

Wait til the 4th round for Crowder?? If you say he has 1st round talent...you think he would have been there til the 4th? Miami got really lucky by landing him. The Ogun trade was perfectly fine for the Phins..what was Ogun's numbers last year with the Bears? His numbers here as a Phin was assisted by the fact that Taylor was always doubled up on the line. The Surtain trade was perfectly fine for the Phins as well. Getting a 2nd round pick was a good trade and Spielman would have traded him for a 3rd or 4th. That's the difference between Saban and RS.
 
You want to see how we did under RS. There is an easy and unarguable way to determine it. Let's look at the value of the three big moves RS made.

A.J. Feeley: What would teams give us for him? We paid a 2nd

Gordon: What would teams give us for him when healthy? We paid a 3rd.

Vernon Carey: WHat would teams give us for him? We paid a 1st and a 4th.

My guess. No one would give us a first day pick for Feeley or Gordon and Carey might get us a late first day based on potential, but no one would want to take on that contract.

The guy is trying to demonstrate how all the hindsight and second guessing could end up being applied to Saban if the same approach is taken to these moves everyone is now applauding (as they did with Spielman when those moves were made). He's right. You guys have such awful memory. Are you going to be screaming for Saban's head if he has the run of sheer bad luck that Spielman ran into? Yes, you probably will.

Nobody knows how Spielman will be remembered for at least 2 more years from now. I saw some of the good throws AJ made. With any kind of running game and blocking he "could" become better than average. Does he have the mental skills needed? Nobody will know until after this season (suggesting of course our line and backs will be better). The O-Gun trade was not great but it was almost a forced issue. Wanny is the one that caused the crash most likely....Spielman just couldn't run away fast enough not to get burned!!!
