For all this stupid crap about Philbin not being a motivator

What is so special about Joe Philbin that he has to come back?

Many a fan probably said the same thing about every head coach before he went on to have success. Its easy to look back on Caughlin and say he's good because of this or that now but I guarantee many fans were doing everything in their power to get him fired at every point in his career before going on to win it all.

Philbin might be good, we've already invested time and energy to adjust our team to fit his system so we would be foolish not to see it through to fruition at this point. For me Philbin on the exact same level as Tannehill as far as trying to judge him, Tannehill might be good or he might just be average but it would be foolish to not give him at least one more season to try to find out for sure.

What's wrong with a coach actually taking notes on what he sees from his team during a game and sharing it with them? To me that is part of being a leader and holding players accountable. I've seen Belichick mic'd up and dictating notes to his son on the sideline during a game. Would that make him a poor leader if he used those notes during his post game speech?

C'mon, it was exaggeration. My point is that Philbin does not interact much with the players during the game. I have never seen him gather the offense on the sidelines and speak with them. I have barely seen him speak with Tannehill during the game.

How many times do you see the head coach of any team in the NFL huddle the O or D together and talk to them? It hardly ever happens. That is the coordinators job. I see Philbin on average pull a player to the side about as much as the avergae NFL coach does. Coaches like Jim Harbaugh do it more than the most, but for the most part a large % of coaches have minimal interaction with the players during the game.

Do you have an all Philbin access cam I'm not aware of? Selective memory at its finest, I saw him talking with Tannehill during both the Bills and Jets game.

Actually Bellicheck does it with his players quite often.

We are not getting enough info to clearly see what happened.

One of the announcers last Sunday said that a player complained about still practicing in pads this late in the season.

It kind of went unnoticed but that may be a big factor in why the team looked so apathetic compared to the other teams playing on Sunday. Maybe they were tired or maybe they were just a bunch of lazy unmotivated whiners

There is no doubt that they did not look very inspired on defense or on offense. The same lack of urgency on 3rd downs showed up in the 3rd & 4th quarters.

A Dolphin player?

Coughlin is a good example for sure, and you won't gets those fans to ever admit they all wanted him fired. Since only one team wins the Super Bowl in the end all the other fans that said their coaches were terrible look smart. I think there is something to the coaching or play calling for sure but again you look smart when you players play well and have talent. Ie Pete Carroll.

As Hayden has pointed out, Joe is not a leader of men. If we are looking for rah rah inspirational speeches from a real manly man as Head Coach, then the solution is obvious, let's go for the very best - Ray Lewis. He even wears glasses now he's on the four letter network and has to look intellectual as an anal-yst. He now wears better suits than the President.

Tom Coughlin = Disciplined teams

He's so hard to watch.

Then I suggest getting a O-Line that can block and keep your QB up-right and LB's that can tackle.....or it doesn't matter who the coach is.

What does the coach do when you don't have all the best players? He coaches them up to get maximum effort. He overcomes adversity, changes strategy to offset an opponents strengths and gets the team to believe that it can and will win.

Just not seeing those qualities with Mr. Philbin.

If there is one stupid argument out there about Philbin it is that he's not a motivator. What a bunch of BS

Do you need motivation really? THIS IS PRO FOOTBALL NOT HIGH SCHOOL

Belichick preaches "do your job". Just because when you watch "remember the titans" you get goosebumps with Denzel's speeches doesn't mean that is what this team lacks. You think Mike McCarthy is bringing his team to tears before a game in the locker room.

It is ASININE to use that as a reason for a new coach. While we are at it I'm tired of hearing Tannehill lacks competitive spirit or emotion. That's what people say about Eli too and he's got 2 rings that he could put on his middle fingers for those people questioning his desire/ leadership.

This really reminds me of when everyone called for Tom Coughlins head only to have him winning it all the next season.

Play calling I agree was crappy at times. But at times it was really good. Main issue was o line that blew beyond belief.

Personnel needed some improvement yes but don't forget we lost Keller, Gibson, Patterson was hit or miss most of the year, Binns was having a good camp, oh and that whole Martin incognito thing lol. That's two important pieces of the line that were gone. All those players were signed by Ireland and dint forget Ireland signed M. Thomas the week of the patriot game.

Oh the patriot game, that must have been because of a great pre game motivational speech.

This is also real life. Unfortunately football players these days are a microcosm of our society and most people go to work and do 'just enough' without any motivation to do the best they can. Football players also get a lot of guaranteed money which does not require them to do more than enough.

If a person does a crappy job and the boss says "oh well" that person will not be motivated to do more. That's the way it is.

In the last two weeks this team was weak, had no motivation and worst of all they were sitting on the sidelines after bad plays laughing and joking. There was nobody who held them responsible. Why should they care if their coaches don't care?
