FORMER DOLPHINS COACH NOT IMPRESSED WITH FINS OFFENSE FROM OTA VISIT

This guy was always a loud mouth jerk......it is OTA's in a brand new offense. What do you expect it to look like? Does he understand the purpose of OTA's? LOL
he was talking about the details mostly..

basically if your team looks like **** in practice and they are doing stupid stuff that they shouldn't be doing, which is the tone for which Westoff was coming from, then you turn off the damn music and check them..

that didnt happen.

Im gonna respect the guys opinion because he deserves that, not gloss it over..regardless if MCD has a different style of teaching, the end result is to practice clean..

What is concerning?

One OTA in early June by an ex special teams only coach who's promoting a book?

That concerts you?
It’s concerning because an objective coach who’s seen a lot isn’t exactly enthused about the progress and details he’s seeing in the offense and the quarterback. Mike Westoff knows football very well. Let’s not dismiss him. No need to be homers all the time here.

He was there ONE day

And he's promoting his book.

I don't think Westhoff is wrong at all in terms of the offense not being where it needs to be. I'd call it an exaggeration when he says worst ever or whatever. I heard him on Joe Rose and he absolutely sounded panicked and alarmist. That's not how you lead. Nobody gets graded on a new offense with new players on June 2. Let's see where we are when it matters.

As for his book, I am a football fanatic. And even I can't imagine ever reading that thing. I am sure he will name drop the Marinos or whatever. Bless his heart, but that just doesn't seem like it would garner much interest.

Then, for being a guest of the Dolphins at camp and then ****ing on what he saw, bad form. He can say that the offense wasn't where it needed to be without being a drama queen.

As for where we are, MM and his staff are analytical. I'm sure they are going to try to solve problems methodically. I don't think they have blinders on and I also don't think the panicky assistant mentality gets you anywhere in June.

It’s impossible to get those who want to be negative to see anything else. So pointing out that he was there for only one day while trying to promote his book is unfortunately just a waste of time.

Some people are always looking for the negative and even when there might not be a real reason for the negativity, they will find someway to make it appear negative.

Nevermind if true or not or if its even relevant... Dont expect many career football coaches to approve of how Mike McDaniel does things... Its completely unheard of and could very well backfire... Which is why I liked the hire in the 1st place, it'll either work great very quickly or go downhill fast... I just dont see a redundant average with McDaniel.

So yeah, there's really no telling which way its going to go... That being said, beware of the opinion of an old school coach watching a single practice, you just dont know where that opinion is coming from deep down.

Ok...geezer report. From someone who was alive at the time when it all happened.

Westhoff as we all should know was a long time special teams coach for shula era dolphins and as loyal fin as there ever was. He was considered the best in the biz and he was. He turned down EVERY offer when his contract came up
because he was loyal to shula and the brand.

Then came Dave "pornstache" Wanstedt. Wanny, in a very similar lyin' bryan flores way, imediately had to have complete control of all aspects of the teams on the finz. Shula ALWAYS let his coaches COACH but wanny, as mw quickly figured him out, did not posess the goods for all that and had it out with wanny big time, almost came to blows but assistant coaches pulled them apart in the meeting room.

Westoff knew he had no voice with JJ who anointed wanny succsessor on his way out. Wanny told westoff after the heads up confrontation he could choose firing or quiting. Mike went to don shula (who still had serious clout) and layed it all out to don who then went to wayne huizenga team owner but wayne wouldnt budge, he said wanstedt deserved his own way of doing things and after shula reported that back, mike left the fins and joined the HATED jets.....on purpous!! He disavowed the fins and said he was all things anti dolphins for life.

But a note of interest here: westoff told don shula before don went to huizenga, "Don, i am telling you, if dave wanstedt is left in place as head coach he will ruin this franchise and maybe lasting decades from his bad mistakes". And he was correct.

My take on his O bashing? To smear the team, a chance at a quick pound of flesh. But..., there are people coaching and in the front office (like danny marino) who knew about westoffs bad blood and if ANY of the report is true, McD was not going to show him ANYTHING the offense would actually be using knowing he would get it out to every team in our division. And one thing we already know is coach Mcdaniel plays chess while others are playing checkers. Of course westoff, like anyone coming in to a practice/camp has to be ok'd. And when danny and the others saw he was coming you can bet they went right to McD and told the tale. And McD gave westoff NOTHING!!

THE D is known. The O under complete control under McD is not!! And thats a good thing, an advantage. The D have been doing what they do. But reports on the O have been very positive with serious long ball production at times against the starting D. So..... again, if the report is true on westoff, the day he shows up the O just happens to sukaz? I say westoffs checker game was no match for McD's chess game. They knew he would most likely bash the team anyway and mcdaniel and staff gave him ZILTCH!!. See later on how westhoff feels when the finz are carving up his beloved jets. "GEEEEZ!! I didnt see any of that at their camp"!! Right mike, you didn't.

Enjoy your EZ chair Mike and the two jet azz woopin's you will witness this season.

Right. Same guy probly thinks Flores runs All Star practices

As always truth is probly somewhere in the middle

Who cares. We're talking about an entirely new playbook, new language, and several new key players playing with guys that are alien to them. They're learning new plays, it's obvious mistakes are going to be made this early on, that's what practice is for. They don't even have damn pads on yet, IT'S ALL NEW to every single person on the O side of the ball. New plays, new schemes, new responsibilities. Westhoff should know better and should have just kept his mouth shut. Hurry up season, this is ridiculous!
Jim Carrey Reaction GIF

The O most likely won't be hitting on all cylinders until after the first few games of the year...

Are you kidding me?

I’m supposed to believe the d-bags opinion who was the special teams coach for the Jets during the sideline tripling incident from back in 2010. Could have ended Carrolll’s career on the spot.

Say what you want but there is no way Sal Alosi came up with players forming a “wall” on the sidelines during punt returns. He was the fall guy for Westhoff.

Posters believing anything that POS says about the Fins after the way he left are clueless.
