Former Dolphins scout threatening to sue the team after contract not renewed

I see your point but where the Dolphins messed up was allowing it in the first place...they made accommodations then a new GM comes in and say we won't do it.....I think the burden will be on Hickey to prove why he feels this reasonable accommodation will hurt his business.... if this scout was doing a poor job then he should have fired him for that not because he wouldn't leave his sick wife at home and spend more time in Davie.....the best case scenario would be its legal and gives the team another black eye...if he is a good scout then shame on Hickey for not checking his ego for a good employee of 17 years....
 
I don't know why people here are so careless about this guy.

Imagine working for a company for 17 years and having a sick wife, and one day your fired and lose All your benefits.

Now we don't know the whole story, So I'm not blaming anyone, but if that's how the story went, I don't care if the dolphins are my favorite team, that's wrong on every level.

Thats how it appears and thats why it strikes a nerve. "No good deed goes unpunished" comes to mind. Unfortunately for others the organization may be reluctant to go above and beyond what is legally required in the future because of this.
 
Compare this story to what the Seahawks just did a few days ago:

...the Seahawks, who could have just waived him without agreeing to the contract, should be commended for doing what they could to make a tough situation easier to deal with.

He has the option of purchasing cobra, which can insure him for up to 18 months. If he hasn't found work by then, or signed up on a health exchange, he would likely qualify for Medicaid.

Seattle signed Garrett before they became aware of the heart condition. He was signed on a Thursday and they became aware of the heart condition 2 days later. Also, Garret was allowed to keep his signing bonus projected to be about $90K, and not his entire salary. Seattle followed the rules regarding signing bonuses, so I don't see where this great charity is that you are talking about.
 
Look I dont get the technical details of the us health system

However it sounds like this guy had a job scouting the Bucs and Jags for the fins. He got paid to do this for 10 years and on top of this the Dolphins paid $3000 a day for his wifes medical bills?

Maybe he should be grateful?

There are people getting laid off left and right for the dumbest reasons (e.g. cheaper labor overseas), and no one cares about them or their lives, and there's no recourse. You're allowed to work from home and earn a good salary and benefits for 10 years, but then turn around and sue the same company that afforded you that life, and using bullygate and whatever you think would help you win the case. That's where I stop feeling bad for the guy. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's the Dolphins. If I heard this about the Cardinals, I'd think "that's messed up".

Just because I don't accept what the leaders of my team do doesn't make me any less of a fan, just as not accepting the actions of our government leaders doesn't make me any less of a patriot. In fact, I would argue it's the opposite. Why should we stand for the constant destruction of something we hold dear?

Cest la vie FinHeaven. Enjoy your endless circle jerks of Philbin/Hickey/Ross worship this summer. You won't see me around until September.

I feel bad for anyone who gets laid off except wall street dirt bags.

But I especially feel bad for someone who has stuck by his wife through the hard times and tried to make it work. I respect the heck out of Miami for helping him out also.

But as I said, I don't know the whole story, but to just leave him hanging out to dry is wrong. Imagine it was you and someone you cared for and I can't imagine you would disagree.
