Getting on the bus with Gus

What makes you so SURE that AJ is "capable". If he can't beat out Gus, that should tell everyone something. I really believe Gus will beat out AJ. I think Gus is just plain better.

Gus already knows most of this O, he will be a lot more comfortable early on than Feeley, does that means he's better than Feeley, No. just that he's ahead in knowledge, thus more at home in terms of what he expects to happen play by play..whereas AJ is stilling feeling his way around..does he know where every receiver will be on every pass play initially, no. Does he know exactly what the OC is trying to get across on each play initially, no. But by the end of TC, I'm sure, if he doesn't already have a lot of it down, he will. Bottomline, you give yourself a chance to develope a player before you quit on him..Boler in Balt. is a great example, so is the saint's QB. Drews had 4 years and finally it sank in. The Jags QB is getting better, he's not there yet, but he's showing improvement..with their D, if he was more effective last year, the Jags could have gone farther.

I had a busy weekend and I am trying to catch up with all the news, but Saban put Gus on the bus? i thought he was going to compete with sage for the number 2 spot?

I understand what you're saying. But when I said Gus is better, it had nothing to do with Gus' familiarity with the offense. I just think Gus has better skills than AJ. Take away Gus' knowledge of the system, and I'd still think Gus would win the job.

yes boller...good talent, leftwich....great talent(best qb in college football his senior season and hasnt missed a beat in his young career), brees....good talent, but i would rather not try to develop another qb before we eventually draft one bc we all know that we are going to get a better talent in the near future through the draft that we are going to have to develop why waste our time with growing pains twice with two different qbs back to back. give the ball to gus for now bc he will perform better in every type of situation and get the ball to CC twice as much. then draft a qb next year even if we dont want to get one in the first round, a second round qb with alot of talent like brees or leftwich can be the one we develop into a muhc better qb than AJ could ever be adn he would be younger. All of us already know we dont want either of these guys for the long run so cut the developing AJ statements bc you all know u dont want him in the future and we shouldnt be wasting our time

and we saw in this years draft that there would a good amount of qbs taken later than the first round that had the talent to be great and take over this team so im sure that will be the same next year or the year after. charlie frye is a good example

I don't think Gus is better, just more experienced, then having the knowledge of the O, we're all going to think he better, because he probably will guide the O better early on, but Gus down the road is what concerns me. I don't think he has it to carry the team a whole year. I think he's more of spot guy now, who can carry us 6-7 games a year. Whereas AJ has that it to me, if he's given the time and personnel, can carry us a long ways, and for a few good years at that..I can't explain why I feel that way, but something about his play last year impressed me. I look for more than the surface stuff, he was young and had to learn a lot on the run, especially with sad OL and running game we had last year...I actually think last year was good for him. If he gets time, he'll appreciate it.

We have no idea what these qb's will do in the NFL...you guys just won't to win now at all cost. I want some stability for awhile and let everyone grow together, will I get that, probably not..Gus may end up starting and I'll be excited just the same, but disappointed, because I'll know we have to go through this QB thing again...problem with that is, if Gus is successful, we won't have a high draft pick..so we'll have to spend 3-4 years developing someone else.

I am pulling for both of them.

this is the attitude all fin fans should have. I am not particualarly enthralled with either one as our "future QB", but its what we have and I think Gus has alot of experience with this OC we have.

Your kidding right?

Chambers and Booker put together dont even equate to what Moss does on a football field.

Randy Moss is the single greatest offensive player in the game today.

Period.
Even if Moss is 2nd (which I dont consider him to be; that'd be owens or LT which is for another debate) I think 3 very good wr's, 1 proven great back, 1 soon to be great back and a very good Te > 1 amazing wr, 2 decent ones, a decent TE and a plethora of decent backs. Basically our depth> their overall deapth @ skill positions.

Well said, and me as well.I would love to see AJ turn out and make it and eventually be a good QB after we gave up a 2nd round pick for him, but I will pull for AJ and Gus to both do great and help get this thing turned around.

No thanks, I'll take the AJ taxi instead...the issue is we KNOW what Gus will give us...he has proven his whole career that he bends under the pressure of a starting position...he has been very good in short fill in stints, but never as a starter...

We still don't know the full potential of AJ...let's see what he can do first...

I agree.

I'd rather try and develop the unkown potential of AJ, than settle for the well known skills of Gus Frerotte.

Certainly in this season with nothing to lose.
