GM Candidates Still Confused About Power Structure

There are two types of power structures that people are comfortable with.

A:) GM has power, HC works under him

B:) HC has power, GM works under him

In option B, the GM is more like a glorified scout.

Our model where the GM and HC don't report to each other is a bit more unusual, thus the uneasiness.

The Buccs are going with option B, as Lovie has the power.

The problem with the Dolphins is that candidates are unsure if the power between HC and GM is truly equal, as Philbin already has a voice in Ross' ear and has Aponte in his corner. That's the difference. Candidates know what they are getting in Tampa, not so much here

I follow your layout there SkapePhin, what I do not understand is why Tampa still has not hired anyone? Especially since it appears that it is spelled out more clearly? and no talk of that in the media etc..the time frame issue should apply to both teams no?

No. However, do you think it might be important for the new GM to get with the HC and figure out what to do? It is only the college all-start season and combine a month away.

Every GM candidate are at the senior bowl anyways. It's not some algebraic equation to find players that are good football players.

Can someone please answer me this question: how has Ross earned the benefit of the doubt on this issue?

I am genuinely interested to hear the responses. Is it just because he is a billionaire?

SkapePhin, not that I think you will be able to ( I will attempt regardless) but can you grasp that we were passes short of being that highflying offense we all want to see? We were a few feet in some case inches shy.

Does the rest of this forum realize or remember that we were robbed vs Baltimore? Those 2 pass interference calls wouldve NEVER been called at the end of Sunday's games. With the recent scrutiny of refs, they wouldve NEVER let iffy calls change dictate outcomes in such important games. There have been more flags picked ip this season than I have ever seen. But the Baltimore game was not a playoff game and we fell on the wrong side of luck.

Never mind what we couldve accomplished if our infamous ex GM wouldve been pro active in assisting the right line squad in the draft.

This team is coming up. You dont see it? Look harder. Don't let it eSkape your attention.

I have no idea what Ross brings to or leaves behind on his way to the table. I havent the slightest idea of what goes on in those conference rooms of crocodile leather and ebony elm. If youre judging Ross for late season losses that has been happening in Miami since I was in middle school, you have that privilege. If your stance is the alleged lack of cohesion in the front office, I call BS because you wont care if its Circus "O" up in the owners suite if we wouldve played last weekend or the weekend before last. But we are bored, bitter, losers and we can/will find venom in anything.

Well, I think the situation is less dire in TB because Lovie will have a big input in personnel acquisitions anyway. He is just looking for a guy who can get him the players he wants.

Good point, but it is the meshing of philosophies with the coaching staff that could have started days ago and I think that is a big deal. Listening to Joe Rose yesterday he talked about how it would be important for the GM and coach to eat, sleep and drink football this week. It could have been a great start. I am concerned the new GM is going to be well behind the process of re-signing players, meshing with the staff and understanding what players fit best with the Fins. Can he catch up? I suppose he has no choice.

Terrible leadership.

I think it is absolutely hilarious how much weight you put in these articles and tweets - you are a real "mark" when it comes to gullibilty

Let the process pan out - you have obviously never been "misquoted" by a reporter - I am surprised anyone even speakes to these guys

Based on reporters we have signed P Manning, hired Harbaugh, and Incognito had murder on his mind with no apparent reason - Really?

Maybe stop reading these things and get a good sleep

And yes I know my spelling is atrocious ;)

That's what the private meeting between each candidate and Philbin was about.

Philbin was letting them know what kind of players he needs for his team to be successful, Philbin and Ireland didn't see eye to eye which was part of the problem.

Apparently the many ****pile games vs inferior teams the Dolphins lost this year due to lack of preparation has completely escaped your attention??

Even with all the shoddy calls against the Phins in the games you mentioned, the Dolphins still would have made the playoffs with even a halfway decent showing against the bills (twice), Buccs and jets.

This coaching staff, like Ross, hasn't shown much of anything to get excited about.

Miami would've won those games if players executed better in a consistent basis. Another part of the problem was a horrible play caller in Sherman.

Would it be better to go through Senior Bowl week with his new coaching staff? Yes, but that is no reason to rush a decision, getting the right GM is most important

I would hope it take longer than that meeting.

Mangini would be a great selection. One, Ross likes and would trust him. Two, Mangini would be allowed to give direction and a vision to the entire team. That is leadership.

Ross liked Jeff as a person to Just because you like soemone and appreciate that person does not make them the perfect fit

However, Ross is dithering and making this GM job more difficult by the day. He had his interviews. He has had time to do a few more, but to our knowledge has not. Therefore, out of the men you talked to...pick one. Trust your instincts and allow this team to start improving.

Ahh...more media people getting together and conspiring. If I have a learning disability you are clinically paranoid.

Media make up stuff - they don't consult each other - stories sell to people like you the gullible mass - do you also collect the National Enquirer magazine?

So where do you get your information from? I am confused. I think I am well read and stay up on things. Yet, I think others here put their heads in the sand and deny there are issues. Do you think there are significant issues with this organization? You would think that a successfully run organization would actually have a winning season mixed in over a half a dozen years.

I'm wondering when the excuses for Philbin will end.

No doubt there were talent gaps on the team, notably the OL, but Philbin was a big part of the problem.

Look no further than the last game f the season with the playoffs on the line against a bitter rival, and all the dolphins players were walking around listless, lost and defeated midway through the game, with the playoffs still in their grasps. That was a pathetic display all around, and that falls on the coaching, considering we definitely had the talent to beat the Jets at home seeing as how we beat them thoroughly on their field just a few weeks earlier with the same personnel.

Also, if I interviewed for the Dolphins GM position last week, I would look closely at the players I believe would help them the most.
Conversely, if I'm Ross I'm asking about what he saw during Senior Bowl week that would help the team in the second interview
