GM Candidates Still Confused About Power Structure

I have been involved with numerous job interviews and not one involved the person managing payroll.

Let me guess, because the job you interviewed for has nothing to do with payroll?

And her position is a lot more than payroll. She is the direct liaison between the NFL league offices, and also to the NFLPA.

Our team has no ALPHA male. We have no ALPHA male to take the organization by the neck, throw it on the bed, and demonstrate what the fuc.k is going to happen!

Could you imagine if we had a player that showed the same fire Richard Sherman displays?

I swear I felt like I was watching golf all season watching the Fins skip down field .

I'm just glad we got rid of Sherman and Ireland, it was a great start!

p.s as you can tell, I am still frustrated! Especially after reading garbage like this!

Can someone please answer me this question: how has Ross earned the benefit of the doubt on this issue?

I am genuinely interested to hear the responses. Is it just because he is a billionaire?

If Jerry Jones was the owner you would still have people defending him. So to answer your question: He bought the Miami Dolphins and THAT is how he earned their trust and blind mice praise.

I am angry and frustrated that the Fins are not winning

Bingo. Thats the heart of it; for you, Dany, Skape and all of the rest.

You guys are that fighter that gets punched in the mouth and all of the sudden the game plan of moving away from the dangerous punch and establishing the jab are substituted by rage.

How can you sincerely not agree that better play-calling and, most important, a mere average oline wouldve made a world of difference? Its as simple as this: if you cannot concede to the prior statement, you clearly have an agenda. Period.

Call me out if you wish, but I sincerely doubt you have ever been in the environment with the option to sign a mulit-million dollar contract paid out by a billionaire amidst a world re-known multi-billion dollar association like that of the NFL. They're not sitting on folding chairs around a portable table discussing a Target application, I'll put it that way.

And the good- no- very good teams we beat? They go the way of the dinosaur because heaven forbid your philosophy is flawed.

You have a 15-17 coach growing with a rookie QB with a god awful influx of draft youth/talent and you are surprised the road is bumpy? Bro, I dont want to scare you so be advised that if you walk outside the sky may be blue. Just a heads up.

If the lot of you would put down the bitterness of being oh so close, you would realize that a playoff push was nothing short of a miracle. I know its hard to put it down. I laid in bed without a wink of sleep until the morning sick to my stomach after the Jets game, work the only force that dragged me out of bed. I am with you- i am one of you.

But you must also see what couldve been. Let Tannehill hit a 3 or 4 of those miss throws for touchdowns and...

You can't justify firing a head coach mere plays away from the playoffs in his second year. Thats, well, back to my favorite word: ridiculous.

Can you point to any moments where superior play calling or gameday decisions won the Dolphins a game this season? I can name several times when the opposite occurred.

As much as people hate on Ireland, and deservedly so in some cases like the OL, his work of acquiring talent had more to do with the wins this season than anything Philbin did. Philbin didn't win "in spite" of talent. If you will notice, any time the OL performed halfway decently, the team as a whole tended to perform well, allowing the rest of the assembled talent to shine. The team had enough talent to win several more games than it did.

Philbin is only really above average in one regard: administrative tasks. He is like a school principal.

He isn't a master motivator, he isn't a football whiz. He isn't anything "special". He is just an average coach who likely tops out as a coach who brings his team to the playoffs only to lose in the first round time and time again, because he can't "out coach" the top coaches in this league.

Don't worry, you will see this in time...

One some don't realize is these floated "ambiguities" about are power structure are probably attempts by candidates to leverage more power.

Of course not. It doesnt supplement your point of view.

Philbin is to blame for bad referee calls vs Baltimore? Philbin is to blame for missed field goals in the first Buffalo meeting? Philbin is to blame for the defense' inability to stop Newton when the game is on the line? Philbin is to blame for an offensive line that made history? Philbin is to blame for an offense so bland licking a wall would provide more flavor?

All of the sudden, it isnt a team sport anymore. In one year, 5 years of bad drafting doesnt factor in- all so very convenient for you.

Your point of view is short-sided, but it has been made and you cannot backpedal now. You must plow on through no matter how little sense it makes so why even have this discussion? I am wrong to you. You are wrong to me.

I don't blame Philbin for everything. He didn't have a team full of probowlers thank to Ireland. But even you can't deny that his team was not ready to play in those games I mention. The 2 bills games, the tampa game and the jets game. Also, how do you explain the team did not score a TD on it's first posesion for the last 12 games in a row. It's that a team ready to play? I'm not one to blame one person for everything and that is why I wanted Ireland, Sherman AND Philbin gone. If you're happy with him and feel he's the HC that's going to take us to the super bowl, then good for you. Me on the other hand haven't seen him do anything that would lead me to believe that he will ever take us there. It's not a matter of blaming him for everyhing but the jets with a horrible QB and less talent ended the season 8 and 8 and playing hard for their HC. We ended 8 and 8 and were playing like we didn't care for their HC. That's your leader right there.

Ozzy rules!!

If our owner would have a track record of success, I would defend him to the cows came home. However, he has done nothing to demonstrate he understands what he is doing...yet people back him like he is Jerry Buss.
We agree to disagree. I think that he has actually taken relatively few opportunities to direct the course. I think that he genuinely prefers to leave the football decisions to football people. He inherited Parcells, Sparano and Ireland and then Parcells jumped out of the boat at the first opportunity to collect a payout. When people have been extremely successful in business they tend to behave in a similar manner. Ross' inclination was to trust in Ireland because he always had excuses and he was pretty sharp.
The appointment of Joe Philbin 2 years ago was Ross' first big decision and he selected a highly analytical guy who excelled in organization. Ross' business is real estate development, the people who excel are probably the guys who are extremely well organized. I expect that he naturally gravitated to him.
I was actually an advocate of keeping Ireland for a further year, on the basis of linking Philbin and Ireland to the same timeframe. Keep both or fire both next year if they get any less than 10 wins. However, the decision was made to appoint a new GM.
As I said this is one of the very opportunities for us to see Stephen Ross' decision making. Some on Finheaven will start vomiting over whomever he chooses. My inclination will be to observe and progressively form my opinion on what I see. I am foreign and don't rush to judgement like most on here based on a reporter spinning a negative story about a candidate to be sensational.

Do you mean someone like Bill Parcells? That really turned out well.

Last time beat writers attacked the team for a poor search (OC search) and saying nobody wanted the job, Bill Lazor was hired just a few hours later.

Just saying

Next we will hear that the assistant that asked the candidate if he would like a cup of coffee caused mass confusion by his or her appearance in the interview room. One candidate was quoted as saying "I couldn't tell whose assistant it was. I was confused whether I was being offered coffee by Ross' assistant or Aponte's. And if I were offered the job it was unclear whether this same person would be providing me coffee or would it be someone else".

Tom Garfinkel was also involved in the interviews. So was Carl Peterson. Obviously, since Peterson and Garfinkle were in the interviews, it must mean they are the ones who are secretly running the drafts and the GM is just a figurehead puppet.

Holy crap what's wrong with you people....have you never been on an interview before?
