Ross needs to make it clear publicly and structurally that dawn Aponte is not running the team and she reports to the GM. She should report to Philbin as well.
If it were so, it would be obvious.
Confusion exists because complexity is present. It seems to me that Aponte's presence and our convoluted structure is not quite attracting individuals. Coupled with the fact we keep interviewing while others are hiring tells me we have a situation no one wants.
The board would be better off coming to grips with the fact Dawn HAS more power than anyone wants to admit. And her presence is quickly becoming a stench rivaling "The Ireland".
Ross has given so much special treatment to Dawn in order to find favor among the NFL brass it is hurting this team. We have a HC. We have an owner. In a normal situation a GM slides in between them and the problem is solved.
But instead, we have Dawn. Excusing her presence and role in all of this is ignoring the elephant in the room. Walking around scratching our heads wondering why we can't figure it out, yet there's our special circumstance right in front of our eyes.
She will continue to create a problem until she finally gets elevated to the NFL offices and she becomes someone else's problem. Then we can watch "The First Lady of Football" on ESPN's 30 for 30 in a few years and see how she struggled to carve out a spot for herself in a man's world.
I have no issue with her pursuing her career. But frankly, if she was a man, this confusion wouldn't exist and the "he" in her shoes wouldn't have this much impact or power.
Understand, this is about a problem. A problem preventing our favorite team from acquiring the people it needs to succeed. Ireland was a problem. He was shown the door. We have another problem.
Fix the problem and go about hiring a GM the right way.
