I dunno if all these comments about 40 times are directed my way, but I'm not particularly interested in them as a predictor of success. However, if you 're a 4.70 receiver, the chances of you making it are VERY small (Jerry Rice and Anquan Boldin examples noted). I was simply pointing out that his actual 40 is a good bit quicker and his game speed appears quicker again. His combine/pro day measureables weren't great, that's just a fact. It doesn't make him a bad player or a probable bust, but they confirm what you can see on the tape - he's a physical, passionate receiver who runs good routes and has a huge catch radius for his size. He isn't much of an explosive athlete, though he does get separation regularly at college level.
He is a great character and a team player. He is the kind of guy who you imagine will do well in Lazor's offense. You can see in his game the ability to catch on the move and immediately begin to get upfield. He and Matthews are quite similar in this and other respects, though Landry's hands look much more secure and he's a more willing blocker.
The point that he, Matthews and Gibson are quite similar is pretty valid, imo. I don't necessarily see it as a negative, especially with Wallace, Hartline, Clay and maybe Binns in the roster. I've said it before, the guy whose production I see taking a hit is Hartline, if what we believe of the Lazor Offense is true. We're not going to be hitting those comebacks to the sideline as regularly as we did and those are Hartline's staple diet.
