Hayden Fox's 2014 Offseason Plan

Wow. I'm shocked. When I clicked on this I was expecting just a short paragraph saying we should trade all our draft picks for Mike McCoy.

Wallace didn't make (relatively) much last year, he won't want to reduce that $17 million for 2014.
I would just leave that alone, there is plenty of money spend even with it. Also, the way his contract is structured he can be cut (again relatively) pain-free after next year.

Rent - you can still restructure him and keep him whole at $17M. By converting guaranteed salary to a bonus payment, you can spread that $17M over a few years. It's a pretty common tactic.

I like your thoughts on Tight End. Having a threat out there to compliment Clay would open things up a lot. Also agree that a FA can be signed to fill this role.

There are some big catch radius TE's that I think could fit.

Yes it frees money this year, but then you lengthen your commitment to him and increase the possibility of future dead money. If you pay the big chunk now, when you have so much room, it keeps your options open in a couple years.

Why not try to add a real 4-3 mlber? Jon Beason would be ideal and brings leadership with him. As the Giants mlber he played ok, but i believe he elevated players around him. Adding a player like him and Maurice Jones drew could bring a new culture. We need to get rid of Daniel Thomas and Phillip wheeler- no doubt. Time to change the culture, because the young culture They brought learned from some bad role models. I.e

I understand that financially it makes sense to keep him, but would he start? Probably not. I would rather let a young player with better toughness and instincts play in front of him. I guess he could play special teams..

Im just saying if u gain nothing by cutting him, you might as well give him another season. I mean if we are just gonna cut crap linebackers we might as well cut ellerbee too but his dead money will be the same

Keeping M Moore is important this year for insurance , and because RT LIKES HIM. End of story.

Cutting Wheeler is foolish for anyone with any understanding of math. Cut him, and pay the same as if ya don't. I want that deal. lol

Wallace can re-structure IF need be. We would just be moving some of his guaranteed money a year or two, and my have to give him a bit more guaranteed to do so. No matter what he is gonna get his money.

For me, re-sign Clemons, Carroll, and Yeatman (depending on his injury).

Im sorry u don't overpay a backup because RT likes him and guaranteeing more money for Wallace just hurts us down the line and really does nothing for us this year. We have adequate cap room. BY moving that money you create another high dead money contract if you end up having to cut him.
His guaranteed percentage is already among the highest in the league. We are already paying him like he is among the best 5 receivers in the league, lets just let it be and see what kind of year he has.

Nice job Hayden, a lot of thought went into this. I agree with a lot and don't with some. I have questions not only to you but to anyone that wants to cut, designate, or restructure Wheeler or Wallace. Miami is sitting at about $32m under the cap with the current contracts of those two players why mess with them this year when you could outright cut both next year and between the two of them it would only be a $10m cap hit? I am not a big fan of Aponte and I know you aren't as well, but she did a great job with these contracts. They both will be big hits this year, but next year if they aren't performing the contracts are team friendly to get out of. Just let it be what it is for this year and see how they do in year two.

I agree with you on Moore in principle, but Miami's cap situation is great even with Moore's money. The good thing with Moore and Patterson is that it's almost like free money if you need it. If Miami is looking tight then those two could be cut and re-signed cheaper or move on.

Are there decent veteran QB's out there that would not make Moore's money.

I think Moore is a great professional and is an excellent backup. I am just looking to free some money up.

Tannehill will be adjusting to a new OC this year. I have to believe that Moore can help him much more than anyone else, and I don't see anyone else out there as well. He is also valuable insurance, and knows our receivers.

IF we need more money, I would look to Patterson and/or a Wallace re-structure before Moore.

Maybe a veteran back up that has experience with Lazor's system would be more effective. I am wondering if it is time to land a young QB to develop behind RT at this time, however.

No sense for our back up QB to be making more than our starting QB.

Moore's contract needs to seriously be re-structured or he needs to be traded. He is making way too much for riding the pine.
