Hayden Fox's 2014 Offseason Plan

I would cut Moore as soon as possible. He proved this year he can't even come off the bench and look decent. Heck, Devlin could do better than 2 INT's on 6 attempts

I have to agree with you. His play in that game was beyond shocking, although he did complete a long pass. He was away to aggressive and he doesn't have that kind of arm.
We should sign and trade Moore and get something for him instead of letting him walk. There will be a team ready to deal at some point.
It is important to draft another QB every couple of years. You never know when you can strike gold or at least keep another player waiting in the wings for salary cap reasons.
RT could go down with a career ending injury, any QB has that risk. The team has to keep looking to the future.
If Devlin is not ready or able to be the #2 by now, he should be phased out as well.

.

agree 100 %

Moore is going to cost you $1m no matter what so what is the hurry to cut him? Wait until camp and see what you have, then if you want to move on do so and you have a vet arm in camp.
my feeling is that if he offers nothing, no need to keep him around. Plus, that $5 million can get you a starter at another position or maybe it's the difference in landing a top tier free agent over a lesser player. Do it now so you can be ready to jump when free agency opens.

If someone is willing to offer something for Moore, I would take in a heartbeat

No one is trading for the honor of paying Moore 5 million

Agreed. I would wait till after Training camp or late preseason. First we get to see if Devlin has developed further to be the backup. Or we possible use the draft to pick up a project QB. It is likely we could get a trade offer if a QB goes down during training camp or preseason.

Great job, Hayden. Murray or Mettenberger would allow us to move Moore and save mucho $. I like the thinking. Would love a vet RB who could come in an elevate the run game. If the right vet for the right money isn't happening the draft has some nice choices. Big, powerful and falls forward after contact would be what I'm hoping for. Regarding Keller, not sure I want him gone if his health is back to 100%. He seemed so perfect before the injury. I know coming back from such an injury isn't easy but if the Docs say he's back I'd be inclined to give him the preseason to prove it. At #19 I would not like to see us go CB. We used high picks and doubled down last year. Let's see if these guys can play. I rather go LB, Safety, RB or o-line here. Patterson is sure great when he isn't hurt. I'd take a hard look at his current health sort of like Keller. Vet min. and the preseason to convince us he going to line up and play instead of sitting out with groin injuries. Finally, as you point out Shazier would really help this team. And as you say simply dump Martin and turn the page. Do we really need more proof that he was a really poor #2 pick. I think not.

I do not have an issue with Keller coming back. He is similar to Clay in some respects, but Keller would have had a monster year IMO if he stayed healthy….taking some stats away from Clay's great year. Clay picked up the slack without question…something I was not sure he could do, but he certainly did. I stand wrong on that one.

I doubt that any of us had the belief that Clay would have the kind of season he had. Before last year there were only flashes of big play ability. A Keller type in addition to Clay would add a nice dimention to the offense especially in the red zone. On another subject we have to be able to run the freakin' ball and stop the run. Failure in those two areas killed us last season. Crappy pass protection didn't help either. I really think we can get these things fixed and be a much better team. Also, I loved the way Gibson was playing before his injury and am excited to see him come back strong. We have plenty of targets for Tannehill but if we don't give him a running game and some pass protection the offense will still stink. I'm counting on Lazor to bring the offense into the modern times. He will be so much better than the relic, Sherman. There's much work to be done so Hickey better be on point.

Why not try and resign Patterson to deal that incents him to stay on the field if you can. I can't see us going big here outside of Grimes given Taylor and Davis picks last year.

Cut Wheeler!

Patterson had injuries prior to coming here.

Patterson is really good WHEN healthy.. That being said I would cut him. I agree with almost everything in your plan. I'd keep Wheeler for another year, as next year i'm pretty certain it'd be less of a cap penalty to cut him. For me, Soliai, Clemons and Grimes are must signs. The leadership turnover would too be big of a hit on our defense.

I'd pick up Linval Joseph, Sam Shields, Jon Asamoah, Breno Giacomini or Rodger Saffold and Anthony Dixon.

Draft 1st Zack Martin, 2nd Morgan Moses, 3rd Carlos Hyde, 4th Calvin Barnett, 5th Marcel Jensen, 6th Seantrel Henderson, 7th Dede Lattimore

NFL Insiders said that the Raiders will tag Lamar Houston if they cannot sign him. If they DO tag him and not able to re-sign Jared Veldheer let him go to the head of the line for possible LT signings. Excellent player. Excellent.
