Bowing Out of the Conversation!
A little intellectually sanctimonious are we?
I do not know if Philbin will succeed or not. No one does. Including You.
We are not tracking the movement of the stars here.
All I have said is if the record is 10-6 or better, then he deserves to stay because it means this regime has shown three years of growth.
Without access to the internal workings of the regime, the record, as the sum execution, of the regime is what we have.
So yes there are more data points like you suggest but there are so many hidden data points that how can you possibly know what are the factors behind the "data points" that you are relying on. Its called a confounder, and science is riddled with failed experiments because people fail to take them into account.
It is not fair to compare the record of Philbin and Sparano.
The only reason Sparano's record is not significantly lower is because of his anomalous record in 2008 which I am sure you recall included: the Wildcat(which was effective in winning us a few games early on), Chad Pennington falling in our lap, Brady being injured and a historically weak scheduled as a consequence of our 1-15 season.
Philbin, on the other hand, has been saddled with that asshat Jeff Ireland who built a roster so crappy that we had an unprecedented amount of UDFA make the team this year.
In fact if Ireland had just listened to Joe and used that 2nd rounder(plus our original 12th pick) on Brandon Albert last year perhaps our offense would have been perpetually stuck in the mud and Bullygate might not ever had happened.
We all admitted that this was the first season where we actually have the offensive linemen that could actually execute what Joe wants to do!
So you lecture about the hazards of confounders yet you claim to know exactly why Sparano's record is actually better than Philbin's? Or do confounders cease to exist when they back up the point you want to make?
Just drop the act already. These are all opinions. I could have a bug under Joe Philbin's desk and a chip installed on Steve Ross' reptile brain with a printout of his thoughts and my judgement of what goes on inside the building -- who's responsible for what, and why -- would still be an opinion. Your search for hardline unimpeachable evidence is dead on the vine... a conceit designed to shroud opinions you disagree with a ****mist when no version of the factual evidence you seek even potentially exists. Meanwhile the guy who supposedly has all the information gave Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano contract extensions and hired Joe Philbin. Somehow "knowing" what you claim is necessary to know isn't everything.
Like I said, if you want to rely on the record exclusively go ahead. But why are you elaborating, then?
