heath evans take on feeley/frerotte

I'am sure that Frerotte gives more stability to our offense, since knows the system and his got more experience. I really feel that Saban made the right choice to pick Frerotte, which I think was not a choice dictate by the fact that Frerotte is better, but gives to the team more confidence....and confidence is what our offense need now.

I actually think that's one of AJ's problems. I dont think he takes practice that seriously. And if that's the case he has noone to blame but himself for not having a better grasp of the offense. Unfortunatley I dont know whether thats true or not it but more my hunch

...........the reality is that the knock on him his entire football career has been he's a poor practice player. With a reputation like that, the only way to vindicate himself would be to show EXTRA effort in every other facet that comes to practice........studying game film......offseason training....... To this point we've really never read anything about AJ making a committment in ways never seen to those kinds of things........that kind of leads me to think he's more on the spectrum of not taking it seriously, solely due to how important this season is for him.

Agreed that Frerotte in the short term is a better choice but in the long term i think Feeley would be the better choice

Thought this was the best take I have heard yet on the QB competition and why Frerotte has been named the starter.

Fullback Heath Evans said that Frerotte exudes confidence in the huddle on many levels.

"It's almost an unfair comparison [for Feeley] because Gus knows this offense. ... I'd hate to be thrown in a new offense and expect to learn it in one offseason and short two-a-days," Evans said.

"Gus is confident out there. He knows the system inside and out, and he's great with managing even the young receivers and running backs.

"We need A.J., Sage [Rosenfels] and Brock [Berlin], but Gus is the man right now.

Evans has played with veteran quarterbacks before.

"He's the old man. I compare him a lot to Trent Dilfer in my first couple of years at Seattle," Evans said. "We had [Matt] Hasselbeck, who was turning into a phenomenal quarterback ... but when Trent got into the huddle it was kind of like, `All right, the man is here.'

"Gus brings that same presence, even to just the respect level because he's been there, done that. I think A.J.'s going to be a phenomenal quarterback in this league. It just takes time."

Now that is some interesting news. I hope he's right an AJ eventually becomes the guy. I'd hate to think we gave up a 2nd for nothing. And I like Feeley. He showed a lot of toughness last year. He cam make all the throws. Just needs to gey his head out of his ***.

Depends how it compares to Frerotte

Don't be fooled - Frerotte is a stop-gap QB ............ There's no way we pay him big money either. With the way our QB situation is playing out, I fully expect us to make our move on a QB next offseason.

Again, with the way his contract will play out - it's not likely he will get that long-term chance.

I do agree that that is a valid criticism of the guy if its true and if he's gone next year he would have noone to blame but himself. Having said that I have seen improvement in his game this year. He's shown more touch on his passes, he has stayed away from interceptions and he's beginning to look off his receivers. He still has to improve on all of these areas and most importantly his happy feet in the pocket

Consider the value of that 2nd and then tell me if you really think Feeley was worth it. Face it, we gave up too much, there's not way too deny that. In a season where a man like T.O. was moved for a 2nd, getting AJ for the equivalent is just ludicrous. Looking back on Speilman/Wanny moves should attest to how bad the trade was.

It better be through the draft cause I dont want any more free agent QBs brought in

The question becomes - is it too little too late? With this week's most recent transpirings, it appears it very well could be.

For the pick to be worth it Feeley would have to turn into a top 15 QB

Amen. I'll flip my lid if we try to hang our franchise's hat on another illegitimate backup. Dare I say Ricky Williams, pending he makes an impact, for a QB or draft pick for a QB at the end of this season? I'm allowed to wish.

I do think this upcoming game is Feeley's last shot at being named starter for week one. If he doesnt do it this week its the bench until or unless Frerotte gets hurt or plays poorly

what a huge waste of a 2nd round pick...
thank god the wanny days are over.
and face it everyone. gus had this job locked up from the get go.
