As draft day nears and the rumors begin to fly about trades, I wondered about another scenario. All things considered, let's speculate the PHINZ decide NOT to resign Wale. Instead, they wish to trade him before the draft or on draft day #1.

1) If you could trade Wale for 2 HIGH 2nd round picks (33 - 40) AND KEEP all of our current picks, would you?

2) If YES, what positions would you target with 1,2,2?

IF a deal like this could be done, I would do it in a second. I would prefer 2 2nd's over and 1st and third. This gives us so many options, we can go DT in first O line and WR in 2nd, maybe even draft a LB at some point. The only problem is the only team i know of that has a 2 2nds is the NE im sure there are a few but im nto sure who, but yes if its possible i would do this in a second.

That would be a sweet deal...I still don't like the idea of trading Ogun, but that compensation would be such that 3 of our 4 picks on day one could all influence our team this season....

1) Andrews if there, if not Starks (DT).

2a) Smiley/Grove/Snee in that order if we got Starks. If we got Andrews, then Tubbs, Washington, or Antwan Odom.

2b) Boulware (S/LB - if available), D. Smith (ILB) PK Sam, K. Colbert (WRs)

3) C. Joseph (OT), M. Hill, D. Scott (DEs), Schwiegert (S)

I don't know what team has 2 2nd's other than NE and I don't want Ogun playing for them.I want Ogun with us but if we trade him I want at least a 1st round pick for him and maybe a 4th. The first can be turn into a 2nd and a 3rd if we play the cards right and we'd still have our first. But......we wouldn't have the sack leader so forget about it.

I'd normally say no way.....but the fact is this years situation is a little different. OGUN seems poised to hold out until he has to report with 6 games remaining in the season. We know we don't have the money he wants, and the situation is likely to get ugly.

I think the other thing that has to be considered is that this Draft is deep. Especially at our "need positions" and on top of that, the value in Rd 2 is very high at our need positions. We could use one of those 2nd rounders on the player to replace OGUN and use the other at WR, OL, QB etc. There will be some nice value in early round 2. As good as OGUN is, I think we'll be a better team without him and with those picks.

We could do so many things with those picks -
1 - QB Rivers, OL Andrews (If they slide), or a WR that slides

2a - Smiley would be great value here. We could potentially at this point have a Right side OL of Smiley - Andrews (WOW)...or upgrade the offense by drafting QB Rivers- OG Smiley or WR - OL.....

2b - I love the idea of Boulware here, but there also a few nice FS, OL, or WR's we could land here at great value. Depending on what we drafted earlier, this could be our steal player of the draft. My hunch would be the Best FS - LB with the 2B pick. I think our staff likes the Purdue FS.....He'd be a great addition. I do think though that there will be a WR like Lee Evans sitting here though (Chambers clone), and I'm sure alot of fans will be screaming for a WR if one hasnt been taken yet.

The icing on the cake is we still have our 3rd rounder coming up after this and I expect a pretty good choice to be sitting there as well.

I see us better in this scenerio than we are now with OGUN and 2-3 holes and only 1 -2 picks to fix it.

Names that could be in the mix:

D. Bowens (He's ok...could be 3rd down specialist), Grigsby (Unproven - Just like OGUN was)...both could team up with Grigsby on 1st and 2nd downs, Bowens on 3rd downs...

And we could use one of our top picks (Rds 1-3) on a DE.

I'd like a 3rd Rounder to be used unless there is a slider into RD 2 that we can't pass up.

Hey - I hate losing OGUN too. But the fact is right now he doesn't seem to be in the mindset that he's going to suit up and play for us. How good will we be if he's not playing until the last 6 weeks and then we end up in the same boat next year. We need to either sign him or move him. We stand to get screwed if the draft comes and goes and he is still where he is today.

I don't knw Mike. I see what you're saying but I'm not sure that we're a better team without Ogun and adding one pick cos in a way that's all we're adding since we'd use a pick on a DE. So that's a net of 1 pick and who know what kind of player that pick will turn out to be. If it was my call, I'd keep Ogun unless we get a 1st and a 3rd.

I'd agree with you IF we had OGUN as part of the scenerio.....but Thats kinda what I'm saying....we don't have OGUN. He's not just sitting quietly and saying he wants a contract. He's said he doesnt want to play for us. The FO has taken the stance take this contract or sit. He's sitting.

We have already lost OGUN unless he caves (Not likely with Drew) or our FO bends to his demands (We dont have the cash).

It sucks, but we've already likely lost OGUN. Question is can we somehow recoup some of the loss. I think the draft is the best option to doing that. We have to draft wise and make it count.

BTW - If he does sit, then we also have yet another hole at DE right? So now we need OL, WR, QB?, and DE (without OGUN). I don't think we can fill those needs with the picks we have right now. Do we let OGUN control our roster and season that way?
I don't think we can. I bet if this situation is unresolved come draft day, we'll use one of our first 3 picks on a DE.

As the G.M. I'd definitely consider it. My targets would be the same as they are now, o-line, receiver, and perhaps the BPA on defense. That being said, as the G.M. I'm just letting Fins fans know that we're still not drafting Rivers no matter how many picks we get.

To clarify, this is a hypothetical. I'm sure some have read the "rumors" about a possible 3 team trade scenario, involving:

1) NYG 1st, 2nd -> SD
2) SD 1st -> NYG and then
3) SD 2nd, 2nd -> MIA
4) MIA 1st -> SD

My spin on this was:
4) MIA Wale -> SD

Netting MIA 1,2,2. I know SD may not need Wale. I was simply saying anything can happen on draft day. And, my scenario involves trading Wale in an eventual deal that includes 2 2nd picks (no matter how the other team acquires them).

I just wanted everyone to understand my thoughts.

My Doctor says sometimes I sound convoluted. He asked me if I was taking my ADD medication. I said sure, but my Dyslexia and Illiteracy may be affecting my dosages..... :p

As far as replacing Ogun, I submit evidence to my belief that Miami can manufacture the RDE at will (sack totals):

1999 - 12.5 - T. Armstrong 7.5, L. Bromell 5.0
2000 - 21.0 - T. Armstrong 16.5, K. Mixon 2.5, L. Bromell 2.0
2001 - 8.5 - L. Bromell 6.5 sacks, K. Mixon 2.0
2002 - 9.5 - A. Ogunleye 9.5 sacks
2003 - 15.0 - A. Ogunleye 15.0 sacks

Granted, not EVERY sack came from RDE. But, Taylor was the starting LDE those years. But, we have managed to generate 10+ sacks opposite of Taylor nearly every year. We DO manufacture RDE as a luxury of having Taylor.
RDE is easier to fill than O-Line. We need to focus more on what Wale's value can bring us, not how much we should pay him, IMO.

"But, I'm only one man!"

Did OGUN say he doesn't want to play for us? Last I heard his agent was threatening....but thats pretty normal.

Losing OGUN would be a mistake. We need to find the money and keep him w/ us. I thought he was better then JT last year...and forget the Double team crap...OGUN flat played better.

Also, Danny is right....we would need to give up one of these picks to try and replace him.....that is a risk, bigtime.

I think we were watching different games. Jason Taylor is still a man compared to the boy OGUN

We either have the money to resign OGUN or we don't....so far we don't.

As far as risk goes, I think it's a bigger risk to not make a move if we have an opportunity to bring in some younger, cheaper talent in a deep draft rather than having OGUN unsigned and not playing, creating another hole in our roster.

OGUN has played really well for us, but we might not be able to resign him.
