Hickey implementing new technology for the draft

Yay? If the mighty tampa bay did it and nobody copied them it must work brilliantly! Pffffft who needs tom gamble

Did I ever mention that I deeply deeply deeply dislike our gm situation? Unlike nubs I didnt flip flop on the issue after a few days lol

I think it is forward thinking and it adds another layer of data to either support the eyeball test or discount it. Some players are so tightly rated that it could help to put some separation between them.

We should take more concepts from a front office that put together a 28-52 record.

Establishing an Analytics Department and going high tech, I like it. Where some of the other GM candidates presented well and were skilled orators for the media, we went with the experienced player evaluator who could work well with the coach (and now we find out that he embraces technology). It is also a good sign that with all of the things going on leading up to the Combine and then Free Agency, Hickey was able to quickly replicate and implement the high tech tools that he had used in Tampa. What this tells me is that while soft-spoken, he gets things done and now he wants to take the advancement and ramp it up with a whole Analytics Department. Time will tell but I actually think that this is the future and it's really great news.
The guys in the Analytics Dept will probably be pure high tech numbers guys who can get the data. I worked in a successful big corporation and these guys and girls will probably be extremely smart and have great analytical skills. They will probably be strictly resources for the guys who understand the game. My one complaint in all of this is that Andy Cohen should not have been allowed to leak it to the Finsiders. Belichick will hear about it tomorrow (we know that they monitor absolutely everything in their AFC East rivals), and if it's as good as it sounds, he will find out (a) how to replicate it and (b) how to hack it. If this can give us an edge in using information, it should have been strictly confidential.

Great ideas can come from anywhere. In fact the great step change improvements usually come from outside the top dog. Please be open in your thinking to consider innovation. I think that this could actually be really great news.

Jeff Ireland's technology was assigning a letter to each available player and slapping his dick across the keyboard for each pick.

You must have missed after the hire where I clearly said that I didn't like how the hire happened and that I wasn't thrilled with the hire, BUT was going to give him a chance. I will dig that past post up for you if you don't want to look it up. This is me giving Hickey that chance, doesn't mean I am happy with how things were handled in the search or that we didn't come close to hiring the best candidate. As Dolfans we had no choice but to "give him a chance". I prefer to do that than piss and moan and pretend everything that is done is the wrong thing.

So far I have actually been surprised at how well things have gone and the direction things are headed. Doesn't mean my opinion on how the search was conducted changes. No flip flopping, just giving something a chance to prove my original thoughts wrong. So far, not that bad.

Damn mastermind coach. Always quick to rob the little guy of a technology theyve never needed to be extremely successful.

Lets hope youre not using your thumb on alt shift delete come early May.

You think it and so it shall be. In fact, you should state something thats a fact after using, "in fact". In fact, you havent the slightest clue on how its going to turn out unless you can see into the future in which case i am sorry for my sarcastic tone, please give me the winning lotto numbers.

Youre being positive. I get that. And, of course, its a good thing. I appreciate it. But youre going to blindly denounce the opposing standpoint because "you think"? You are a Dolphins fan. Congratulations.

Like it or not, what do you have to go on? Tampa's talent. Hoot away, brother. Hoot away.

Im not being negative. I dont give a great googly moogly if the guy uses paper, rock, scissors to make selections. Get it right. Thats all. Technology, santeria, roll dice... I dont give a sh... Im a Miami Dolphins fan too. So, technology you say? Prove it.

Just pick the right freaking players !!!

It's pretty cool, but it's basically a big tablet. Not sure I would call it revolutionary but I can see where it would be helpful. Rather than having to sit in on place and type in information everything is at your fingertips. Most team already use tablets now for playbooks instead of the old three inch binder. I like it and glad to see Hickey and Miami is embracing technology and moving forward instead of sticking with an old antiquated system.

If I am looking at this correctly....this is just another tool he will be using in the decision making process and not "THE" tool.

In the end, the more information one has, the better. Again, all he has to do is find a couple of player that can start year one and nail his second round pick and he will be a vast improvement over the previous folks.
