Hickey started good but is finishing weak.

Well I certainly did not want to spend all 30-some million in 1 week either. Some of the money average O-Linemen got was ridiculous (Beadles and Howard). I'm glad we didn't spend foolishly.

And anyone who says we overspent on Albert. Yes we did a little but he is a proven pass protector and to keep Tanny upright is top priority.

I agree in that none of the signings have really been sure-thing homeruns. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how they all play out.

What makes me happy though is that Hickey's addressing areas of need, and they all seem like guys that will fit into our team mold nicely; no square pegs.

Um, did I miss the ending of free agency?

Fair enough. But common sense says the majority if not all starter grade players are signed. Miami has no need for backup grade offensive lineman at this point so time isn't on our side. There are times you approach things with a scalpel and times you approach things with a sledge hammer. This is one of those time IMO they should have taken a sledge hammer approach because the deficiencies were so glaring and obvious it would be impossible to get it wrong.

If we take the sledgehammer approach to fixing the offensive line, we run the risk of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Then you are wasting money just to appease an impatient fan base.

Maybe Hickey is smart and knows that the draft is so deep in Guards and RT. we do need to sign extensions to our guys too. Pouncey,Odrick, etc.

But, what if we are taking that into account before any decisions are made? I mean, you thought of it.

One thing you need to consider, this draft has three or four rounds worth of players better than anything left on the market and better than many that were signed already. Why pigeon hole yourself by signing a player to a starter contract when you are likely to get a better player in the draft for less? Those guys can wait until after the draft to fill out the roster with what you weren't able to get in the draft.

Threads like this drive me nuts. Not even an entire week into this FA period and criticism. It's like kids in the back seat complaining they aren't there yet.

There are still FAs to talk to if the FO wants to
There is still a draft
There will still be cuts and moves during training camp

As with Streif, I think the Dolphins have contacted some of the remaining free agent offensive linemen and are awaiting a response. Sometimes when it comes to veteran players, they delay signing with a team because they don't want to go through training camp. This may be the case with some of the remaining players.

Aside from Davin Joseph I don't see any other OG that Miami should even consider signing.

If their gameplan is a heavy O-line draft then I get it......

Do they really have any other choice?

Which maybe the case...

If you take into consideration Albert contract and what Pouncey could potentially earn....you are going to need to save money somewhere and rookie contracts tend to be the best way to do it.

Oh noooooooez! We haven't picked anyone up in the last couple of days! We're done! We're gonna go 0-16! Sell the team! Move the franchise!!!
